About the adventure

Tomb of Annihilation is a raucous and rowdy adventure that starts with a hex-crawl through the deadly (and un-deadly) jungles of Chult and ends in one of the most deadly dungeons in all of D&D! Background: Something evil is trapping the souls of the dead and draining life from all who have been raised from death by magic. This worldwide “death curse” not only prevents the raising of the dead but also causes creatures that were previously raised from the dead to wither and die. Your quest is to discover the source of this death curse and destroy it before it destroys you! Tomb of Annihilation is a Dungeons & Dragons adventure that takes place on the peninsula of Chult in the Forgotten Realms. Chult is a tropical wilderness composed mostly of jungles, plateaus, impassable mountains, and belching volcanoes.

About me

Hi! I'm Ryan! As a Dungeon Master since 2016, I thrive in the storytelling and immersive role-playing aspects of tabletop gaming. I love crafting engaging narratives, weaving together complex characters, and guiding players through rich, dynamic worlds where their decisions shape the story. My passion for creating memorable role-playing moments fuels every game session, making each adventure a unique experience.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players can make their own level 6 character and email their character sheet to me before they join for their first session. Alternatively, players can bring their character sheet to their first session and we can go over any details then. If players use D&D Beyond, feel free to build your character there and email me a link.

The current party

Looking for one more player who wants to join an in progress dungeon crawl as a 12th level character. You would be linking up with a group of three player characters who are already on Level 3 of the Tomb of the Nine Gods (so probably a couple more months of game time to go). We could use a fourth! This is a weekly game played on Monday evenings that goes for a couple of hours and starts around 8:00PM eastern time.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please be prepared to be on camera and to use audio through the computer. Players may need to download Zoom client on to their laptop or device. Players should have their own set of dice, a notebook, pencil, and accessible player character sheet (either digital or paper is fine). I like my online games to be as close to playing around a physical tabletop as possible but will usually use Owlbear Rodeo for combat settings. If players have already purchased Tomb of Annihilation then they should NOT read the adventure! Players should consider downloading the free basic rules from Wizards of the Coast; however players won’t need to reference the rules. The Dungeon Master is the ultimate adjudicator for interpreting the rules and it's also sometimes fun to point out how things work in the game in the interest of learning.

What Ryan brings to the table

I have all D&D 5th edition rulebooks. I will have basic maps and graphics that I will be referring to either by screen sharing online or in Owlbear Rodeo that will help give the players an idea of where things are and how far they've traveled. I may use Whiteboard to sketch basic combat parameters such as monster locations, player locations, obstacles, etc. I often play ambient music in the background.

Safety

How Ryan creates a safe table

This campaign takes place in a fantasy setting with monsters. It will have descriptions of violence which may occasionally be graphic. In-town settings may have descriptions of alcohol consumption.
