About the adventure

💀 An incurable malaise spreads across the globe, sucking away the life of everyone who has already had a close brush with death ☠ What's worse, the creeping, mysterious sickness seems to be growing in potency 🌴 The apparent source lies somewhere deep in the jungles of a dreadful, continent-sized island Ask yourself: are you willing to risk everything to locate and put an end to this worldwide malison? If you're looking for - A D&D experience that emphasizes thoughtful decision-making - An evolving setting that accounts for the party's choices - Rewards for solving problems smartly - Climactic and challenging combats that encourage tactics beyond bashing away until one side's HP is reduced to 0 - An immersive homebrew campaign world with oodles of lore waiting to be uncovered - A heavy focus on player-led exploration and the occasional old-timey dungeon crawl Then this is the campaign for you! Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be using a point-buy system to ensure everyone's PC is roughly equal in terms of power. All PCs start at level 1. Multiclassing is an option as levels are gained but it will need to have an in-game, character-driven justification (access to some kind of teacher or downtime spent training, for instance). I discourage doing it solely for build optimization or min-maxing purposes. There is no need to worry about having a "balanced" party. I'll tweak and tailor encounters and treasures so as not to be unfairly punishing to parties without a dedicated healer, dedicated tank/frontliner, and so on. Play whatever class or archetype you want! Leveling will be done using the milestone system and HP at level up will be rolled by me to lean into that good ol' classic D&D spirit.

The current party

The mysteries of Ekcha Lead await Democracy as they stand before the city's crumbling walls. Seemingly bereft of inhabitants, its paved streets and blocky buildings appear untouched and unmarred by the ravages of time, nature, or war; despite its abandonment and downfall six centuries prior. What is amiss to preserve the city with such perfection? And why would Ceran, an informant and confidant whose advice has never led Democracy astray, leave hints guiding Democracy to this eerie ghost town? Total session length will be 3.5-4 hours, ending somewhere around 9 PM CST

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I ask that each player have a microphone and preferably a headset (to cut down on ambient noise) so play can be done using voice chat in the campaign's Discord server. Familiarity with the game's core rules is not strictly necessary; if you're a brand-new or less-experienced player I'm happy to take things slower and help you get your feet under you You can build and track your character using whatever program or website you like. I'm not a character sheet obsessive type of DM. I trust my players. As long as I have your class, species, background, and general outlook/alignment, I've got all I need. I will be doing my dice rolling using Owlbear Rodeo but if you would prefer using D&DB because that's where you built your character, that is totally fine by me.

What F H brings to the table

I'm providing a remixed campaign module, campaign setting (and tons of setting lore, if you're into that sort of thing), and over 20 years of DM experience. Ambiance will also be provided through soundboards on Syrinscape. I'm also very open and excited for one-on-one conversations about integrating your character and their history, motivations, and goals more tightly into the campaign world

Homebrew rules

Each character has a potion slot that allows them to drink any potion in it as a bonus action once per encounter. The potion can be freely swapped or refilled outside of combat. Each time a character comes off death's door, they gain 1 level of exhaustion. A new damage type, chronic, the counterpart and opposite of psychic damage.

Safety

How F H creates a safe table

Session 0 will be dedicated to character creation (including backstory integration into the campaign world) and introducing characters to one another in-game. We will also go over safety tools and discuss any hard/soft player limits on problematic content (much on the big content warning list is there just in case and is not a necessary or required component of play)
