About the adventure

"The world of Eventyr is a vast and mostly undiscovered world. Most of civilization resides in the temperate climate of the continent of Crescere and on the continent of Nothlandia; a harsh arctic tundra that is rich in resources and magical powers. Overall, much of the world remains undiscovered by these civilizations; The Broken Islands lying east of Crescere across the Amethyst Sea, despite having a few established port towns, are mostly yet unexplored forests and jungles. The continent of Masal, lying far to the west across the treacherous Aigean Ocean, has been reached by only a very few explorers brave (or crazy) enough to make the trip. Only a small fraction of those explorers has returned but they returned with tales of unmatched beauties....and terrors. Several Kingdoms and Dynasties have risen and fallen in Crescere and Nothlandia over the last millennium, since the great war, but a few have stood the test of time and now sit as world powers. Our adventure begins in the rugged frontier City of Southport in Nothlandia. You all will have travelled to Southport for your own reasons, but there, your destinies will find you..." Hello and thanks for checking out this game. As you can see, this will be a homebrew campaign in a homebrew world. I have developed this world over several years and have run multiple campaigns in this world with those campaigns now forming part of the world lore. I have developed literally dozens of cities and towns populated with hundreds of interesting and engaging NPC's. This campaign will start off with a few small adventures to bring the party together but meanwhile plotlines will start to develop that revolve around character backstories. There will still be a main plotline to keep the campaign going forward with suitable world ending power type BBEG being revealed once the party is high enough level. This will be a high RP campaign, with several story arcs. Players may need to be patient for their story arc to come, but I guarantee it will. When possible, I will tie multiple PC's storylines into a single arc. I also love fun, challenging combats so there will be no shortage of those. If you have been looking for a game of D&D that caters to your characters ambitions and playing out that story you've always wanted to play, having a good time playing along with others while they do the same, then this is the campaign for you!

About me

Good Day! Thanks for stopping by! Please let me tell you a bit about myself. I am first and foremost a husband and father, living the dream with 3 teenaged kids and an aging dog. My journey with D&D & RPG's reaches all the way back to 1989 when I was 11 years old, and my two brothers and I received the 2nd Edition rule books as a Christmas present....oh how I remember the fights over rulings between us as young lads, I think I still have a scar or two left from those games. I played various other systems over the years, but have been primarily back to playing D&D since 5th editions arrival. I now DM and play-in games mostly with my family & friends; We actually get together with another family and play every Sunday, there is 11 of us around the table, it is chaos and pure joy, and we have been doing this for several years now with no signs of stopping. I have also hosted countless games for friends and strangers both in person and online. As a DM, I am a World Builder, and a Storyteller. I recently retired a world that had dozens of campaigns played in it ranging over thousands of years of world time. I have been using a new world for the last year that does lean a little more futuristic or even cyberpunk, although there is still heavy D&D fantasy and lore spread throughout. This world is heavily influenced by games, and media that have left an impression on me, most of those influences are subtle, but are definitely there and will be picked up on by players who know. My biggest joy of TTRPG's is crafting adventures with my players. I base my campaigns on Player Character's backstories, so every campaign is unique to the party. Seeing or hearing the players reactions when they encounter something from their backstory is probably my favorite part of being a DM....although I do love throwing challenging scenarios at my players as well! I am not a full-time paid DM. You will not find me running several campaigns at a time. I run one or two paid games at a time, focusing heavily on those games, and the players. IRL, I am semi-retired working part-time at a business I sold a little while back. I DM as a hobby, but as it is a hobby that I invest a lot of time in for virtual strangers, I do ask to be rewarded for my efforts. My games may be at a bit of a premium price, but if you are looking for a big story-telling adventure, I believe you will have a premium experience.. The tables I DM are open to everyone who is looking to have a good time gaming with a group of others. I do not tolerate any kind of discrimination. I fully support the LGBTQ+ community, and anyone of any pronouns is welcome around the table. I am new player friendly, happy to teach the ropes of the game as well as how to use D&D Beyond and other tools. I have DM'd for people age 7 to 70+ and am happy to have any age player at the table, although, it may depend on the table, and most my games will be listed as 19+. If you are a player under 19 who wants to play in one of my games, please reach out to me through a direct message to discuss. I typically do not run One-Shots, and I do not run Modules. I only run long format campaigns in a world built by me and the players who have played in it. PS. My daughter selected the profile pic! She said it makes me look like a fun guy!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at Level 1. Character creation will be done in D&D Beyond using either the 27 point buy system, standard array or rolling (4d6 drop the lowest), if rolling, it is to be done in Roll20 where all can see. Character creation will happen after Session 0. Come with some character ideas ready, we will discuss as a group and go from there.

The current party

This is a great table! The players are fun and all get along well, with lots of great RP. If you are looking for a group where the players get to push the narrative and explore a large, rich world, with plenty of dangers, click that "join campaign" button and send me a message! Characters are at Level 4, and several plot threads have started to develop that intertwine the character backstories. This is an open world campaign with somewhat of a sandbox feel, the storylines that are evolving are completely based on character backstories, with the occasional off the wall side quest. This campaign can run as long as the group decides to keep playing. The party currently consists of: Dragonborn Monk, Yuan-Ti Bard, Dragonborn Fighter and a Simic Hybrid Warlock.

Safety

How DarrenC creates a safe table

This game will be played using D&D Beyond for Character Creation, Roll20 for VTT and Discord for Voice and Video (video is optional). No experience is necessary to join this game, but you do need to come ready to play your character! You can expect a good balance of role-play, combat and exploration. Combats will typically feature obstacles such as terrain or weather events that may make things more challenging and fun. Role-play will feature plenty of opportunity for the party to interact amongst themselves as well as with NPC's. Exploration will involve occasional traps and puzzles but will mostly be scoping out cool locations and looking for loot. There will be a free Session 0 before we start the campaign where we will discuss character ideas as a group and make sure all the characters can work together. I consider my games to be a safe place for players, please see my GM Profile if you want more info!
