About the adventure

Rifts is a multi-genre role-playing which takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, deriving elements from cyberpunk, science fiction, fantasy, horror, western, mythology and many other genres. Rifts serves as a cross-over environment for a variety of other Palladium games with different universes connected through "rifts" on Earth that lead to different spaces, times, and realities known as the Megaverse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifts_(role-playing_game) This is the continuation & re-vamping of a campaign that's been active since 2018. The story was about struggling, broke street urchins making their way up in the Black Market in Merctown. Well, the OG characters have made it, and started their own "legit" business as "acquisition specialists." The campaign is no longer Merctown-centric, but rather megaversal in scope. The team will be doing jobs across the megaverse. The general orientation of the game is quasi-criminal in nature. The player characters are "acquisition specialists" who locate, find, extract, retrieve things & people anywhere in the megaverse for those willing to pay for such a service. --New player characters will start off at an advanced level due to the progression of the campaign. --Gear selection will be "wish list" focused. --The "power level" is low/medium given the focus of the campaign isn't combat--that's just what happens when a good plan goes pear-shaped.

Character creation

Creating your character

This is strictly campaign play, and as character creation for Rifts can range the gamut from simple to very complex, I will walk new players through character creation step-by-step outside of regularly scheduled game times.

The current party

The previous campaign iteration lasted four years IRL. The story was about struggling, broke street urchins making their way up in the Black Market. The original characters have made it, and started their own "legit" business as "acquisition specialists." The campaign is no longer Merctown-centric, but rather Megaversal in scope. The team will be doing jobs across the Megaverse. This is a fairly high level campaign, but a high level of knowledge of the game is not required. Neither is this an introductory game though, so beginners are encouraged to find a different game in which to become more familiar with the rules and setting. Rifts: The Lost Venture fits that bill nicely if you find my GMing style to be to your liking. Gear selection is wish list focused. New player characters begin at 6th level. "Power level" will remain low/medium given the focus of the campaign isn't combat. All campaigns are $10 per session. Campaigns are capped at 7 seats.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Know your character sheets and the personality of your character. I highly encourage practicing your character and how they'll think and interact with everyday things. Make sure you have your backstory in place so we know how it is that you'll behave. Mics, a Discord account, and a Roll20 account are all required. Owning the PDFs or books will be very helpful and lead to less frustration, and so is highly recommended. Support publishers of content you love.

Safety

How Augur (Lloyd) creates a safe table

The first hour will be focused on set-up, resolving player tech issues, and addressing any player concerns. If anything in the game or my personality is not to your liking, you're encouraged to find your fun elsewhere. This is a classic dungeon crawl. A lot of this game is likely to be theater of the mind with conflict scenes taking place on dynamically-lit maps. In-game discussion will use Discord for voice chat, and players are encouraged to whisper (/w) among one another freely throughout the course of a session.
