About the adventure

North of the Spine of the World and west of the towering Reghed Glacier is a frigid expanse few dare to explore, let alone inhabit. This icy land of windswept tundra recently became locked in a perpetual, dark winter without reprieve. Auril the Frostmaiden, the divine embodiment of winter’s fury, has withdrawn to this cold corner of the world to live among mortals. Further, she has cast a terrible spell over Icewind Dale, to the detriment of most of its denizens. Will you be able to stop her, will you find ancient secrets deep within the permafrost or will you meet your end, frozen or ripped limb from limb by a yeti?

About me

Hi! My name is Halen, I've been a DM since 2019 and I'm looking to run some games of high fantasy or sci-fi kick-assery based on the rules and guidelines of 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons. I also have 3 years of theatre experience and over 4,000 hours logged on Roll20, granted there's always room for improvement and reason to learn. I've played numerous characters as well, ranging from a Christmas gnome artificer hell bent on saving Santa, to a human barbarian who made his money as a living statue street performer. Being an active player myself, I like to think I have a good idea of what players tend to enjoy but this does range from group to group, so please, let's talk about it! My default game preference is high fantasy, high magic. Subject to experimental firearms/explosives as who doesn't enjoy a good BOOM! In my games it isn't DM VS Players, rather a cooperative group storytelling/improv exercise where most things the mind can imagine, can happen, if the dice allow it too. I tend to be enabling with what players can do regarding shenanigans but I rarely pull punches on dice rolls, positive or negative. If I sound like the kind of DM you are looking for, reach out to me and let's discuss things further. Ideally I want to run games for newer players as I dive deeper into finding my style of game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Level one characters with all WotC content green lit, homebrew/3rd party stuff is subject to review but will most likely be okayed. The party will start with a free feature, further house rules will be laid out in session 0. I'd prefer you to have a character idea ready for session 0 but it's okay to build it out on the spot, but will be required to be complete by the end of session 0, which we will all be working towards achieving as a group. That just about covers it, if you have further questions, shoot me a message, looking forward to rolling with you!

The current party

Shoot me a message on startplaying for links to the Roll20 & discord. Rolling for stats, character secret, and extra proficiencies equal to INT mod. More homebrew gameplay rules will be covered in character creation.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

No webcam required, but a quality mic would be great. As well as a relatively quiet place to play as excess noise easily distracts me. And of course a Discord and Roll account!

Safety

How Halen creates a safe table

I don't usually go into adult themes too heavily but elements are still present. A dose of magical drugs, a romance side plot, carousing table rolls during a feast. Of course if any uncomfortable situation arises, we'll move to the next scene as soon as possible.
