About the adventure

* Frequent rich role play opportunities * Challenging and engaging combats * Seamless online gaming with no downloads or VTT learning curves It's the one place in Candlekeep where everybody knows your name. Whatever this tavern is called, you, and your party, are the proprietors. Or perhaps you're regulars. Either way, it always seems that when something's gone wrong in the keep, you find out about and of course, get asked to do something about it as well. Our story will follow along with the tales offered in Candlekeep Mysteries, written by some of the best of the modern DND community. From the tavern in the keep, to the cellars below as well as out to Baldur's Gate, Waterdeep and beyond, your party will find adventure... ... or have it find them. This game also features: * Quality storytelling * An experienced Dungeon Master with 30 years behind the screen * A collaborative and inclusive gaming table * Respect as a player and collaborator Characters are created as a group, with new players having time to work in with the rest to become part of the rich narrative and to encourage active role play. When combat happens, it happens in a way that challenges and engages.

About me

One of the first RPGs I ever hosted as Dungeon Guide was I6: Ravenloft back 1988. I've been running games ever since, following the flow of DND releases and more than a few non-fantasy titles. I'm excited to share this experience you and your party. My table features: * Frequent rich role play opportunities * Challenging and engaging combats * Quality storytelling * A Dungeon Master with over 30 years experience * A collaborative and inclusive gaming table *Seamless online play without downloads or VTT learning curves * Respect as a player and collaborator When I run a game I like to focus on story, fun, and excitement as well as keeping my table fully inclusive to players of all backgrounds, experience and lifestyle. I blend premade maps with quick sketches and theater of the mind. For a sample of my DM style, you're welcome to drop by my twitch channel (Lantern Noir) or my YouTube channel (Lantern Noir Presents) and see the games that I have run live on line. I ask that all of my players recognize that we want to have a welcoming, positive, and safe table. To keep the game as accessible as possible I focus on easy to use tools, and supports such as DND Beyond and Owlbear Rodeo. These are blended via broadcast software into the Zoom call so you can dive right in on the action. I welcome new and old gamers to the table and am happy to teach gaming to newcomers as well as engaging the veterans.

Engaging, thoughtful about interactions with and between players, allows for shenanigans but keeps us in line, too, creative NPCs and storylines, and tons of fun!

Did an awesome job helping the players be part of the story, great improv and humor. Great suggestions for character building for new players in the group. Excellent tech, the map, initiative tracker and tokens were awesome!

Lantern helped me create a really fun, fleshed-out character for this new-to-me system - Spirit of the Century. I felt like all the characters we created at the table really fit the pulp genre of this session well and that was important for me to feel immersed in the story. I had a blast at the virtual table collaborating with the other players and will definitely be back again.

This was a great "first time" game for folks that don't know the system.

I was lucky to play a whole year with Lantern. Never played before but have played again with others and that is when I realized how spoiled I was during my first experience. Every game was a blast, every character memorable, the pace kept up and we were able to focus on having fun with very little distractions. 11 out of 10, would play again.

Character creation
Creating your character

We will be blending our characters together at Session 0. If you wish to arrive with a character pre-made, that is welcome but there should be time for others to make a 1st level character. New Players will also be guided through the character creation steps so that this part of the evening can move briskly. Rather than rolling, players are asked to use Point Buy or Standard Array. Please no Aracrokra or Monstrous races without talking to the DM first. In addition we will be using part of Session 0 for a Shared Backstory to start the party off as a team heading on their first adventure. If players join after Session 0, there will be a brief "group onboarding" session to work them into the story so everyone has a reason to be together. There, new players can review the current group's back stories in brief and find ways to work into the story.

The current party

The Game includes currently: Elven Fighter with a bounty hunter's eye Halfling Ranger with a need for more beer Human Wizard learning his spells as we go All we need is you

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Players should prepare by making sure that they have a space to attend the zoom call and enough computer screen space to access the call and view an online character sheet. If you need help getting set up on DND Beyond, we can work that before the first session and get your account set up, etc. Cameras are recommended but not required. We will be using online VTT's, and ideally online rolling via DND Beyond. If players wish to create a style and concept for their character that will help us all through the creation process. Week by week players should arrive on time and ready to play.

What Rob aka Lantern Noir brings to the table

Using skills learned while streaming my games on Twitch, I present everything you need from a VTT to combat tracking on the Zoom call itself. There are no additional downloads or VTT learning curves to master. My goal is to make engaging in the game as simple and straight forward as possible. While the Candlekeep Mysteries are well written, my hand will be in weaving them together into one story with you as the stars. While using the VTT, specialized maps will be created to ease with the immersion. As the group gels, there will be chances to discuss specialized character art. For this session you will be invited to a DNDBeyond campaign with content sharing enabled.

How Rob aka Lantern Noir creates a safe table

Our focus will be on role playing, puzzle solving and when the time comes, quick but engaging combat. Not every puzzle can be solved with a negotiation but players will be encouraged to role play through the challenges, suggest solutions and see how the story plays out. In addition, custom arcs can be introduced to help you feel part of the tale.
