Meet the Game Master
About me
Looking to make some quality friends? Looking for new experiences and opportunities? Looking for deep immersion and escape? My games provide for many things. The biggest of them is to bring together quality people who can build lasting friendships with each other. They also help you learn new things, new game systems and styles of play. They are also meant to create an immersive escape from the rest of the week where you can truly become someone else...a heroic character of legend! I started running games in the mid-70s, and have developed a fluid and adaptive style. I have learned and taught many game systems, but I have a few favorites I prefer to run (and am finding and experimenting with others all the time). I have hosted many a game table and many a convention and enjoy providing a memorable game experience for everyone. I love seeing friendships grow around my tables, and players really getting into their games. You, too, are welcome at my table. :)

Creating your character
You and I will work on your PC from Level 1 to the level at which you will join the party. Your first session will be free as an "observer" or playing an NPC so you can get a feel for the group to see if you are a good fit. You and I will then work together in fast-forward to write out your PCs story (in short form) from Level 1 to your level when you join the others. Your PC will then have a background that integrates with the major plotlines and the party for your next session. Leveling up in the game is done in milestones.
Ancient Dragons, Dracoliches, and artifacts that bestow god-like powers! Join this band of heroes that are fighting enemies on two (THREE!) fronts! Cultists of the evil Storm God, TALOS, and followers of the God of the undead, MYRKUL. And now there is word of a new cult rising in Neverwinter of Vecna worshippers! These powerful forces are clashing against each other as well as against the troublesome heroes... ...but now compete for an incredibly powerful artifact. If either side gets control of the Ruinstone, it spells the end of the Sword Coast and beyond! Players will join the party at their level, but only after a special character creation process with the GM that will tie them into the campaign and plot in very meaningful ways. We expect to play up to Level 20! Your first session will happen after you apply to the game but before I add you, so that you will have a chance to sit in and get to know the group. I will probably give you an NPC to play so you have some fun while getting to know the others. Most of our players are new to the game, some played back in the day and have gotten back into the game only recently. So if you are new, you will probably fit right in. We stream the game to YouTube. I don't require cameras but they are encouraged. The streaming I do is very amateur and meant mostly to provide an online recording of the game for players themselves to watch and share. I have no followers to speak of, and am NOT trying to gain more. :) Plenty of combat, but lots of role-play and character development!! If you want to see how a long-term campaign plays out with other players who care about their characters and lean into the story pretty hard, then this is likely the game for you!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need to have the following: 1. A working mic (webcam optional, but strongly encouraged) 2. Chrome or Edge browser for Foundry VTT. 3. A free D&D Beyond account set up (dndbeyond.com) 4. A free Discord account and Discord software set up on your computer (and working with your mic/webam). 5. I will provide a free MS Teams account for voice/video chat. You will be given access to all the software, rules, and game tools free of charge. You will just need a decent computer and internet connection. :)
What GameKn1ght Jim brings to the table
I will provide access to all the rule books (way more than you need, but you will have access to them all while in this campaign) via D&D Beyond (DDB). You will be able to look at them all from your own free DDB account. I will create and manage a private Discord server just for this campaign. You will be able to chat with other players and me between sessions. You will also get one-on-one coaching with character creation, game-strategy, and a gaming experience with a patient, veteran DM. I am *NOT* a rules-heavy gamer, but you will learn the game rules with me as needed to have a blast playing the game! I love throwing a lot of character and personality into how I run games.

How GameKn1ght Jim creates a safe table
In it's initial form, this campaign may bring content that will include: Alcohol use, fantasy violence, monstrous foes, dark magic, and death. As a custom experience designed specifically for your comfort level we will discuss during our first sessions what themes you are comfortable with, willing to explore, etc. We will use the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist (found here: https://mcpl.info/sites/default/files/images/consent-in-gaming-form-fillable-checklist-2019-09-13.pdf) and use this as a guide for the campaign. Should we encounter something that unexpectedly makes you uncomfortable, you will be able to signal in-game chat with an "X" as a hard stop, "N" as a signal that we might be headed toward and X and proceed carefully, and "O" as a signal of approved content and to keep it coming. The player will always have respectful responses and have full control over the content. Be assured that the player can leave or take a break from the game for their own safety and well-being without being judged. There will be NO adult or sexually-oriented material at all (that is an X for the DM), and the game will be tailored to the kind of role-playing experience you want to learn or try. This will be a great opportunity to work on your "Critical Role" voice acting in a game with some guidance and NO JUDGEMENT. We are here to have fun and learn how to play the ways that bring us great memories and stories to tell!
