About the adventure

Prevent elemental annihilation in this adventure for the world's greatest roleplaying game. A terrible threat gathers in the North. Throughout this region of the Forgotten Realms, savage marauders bring destruction. Monsters are on the prowl, preying on flocks, rampaging through croplands, and attacking homesteads and travelers. In settlements, discord and suspicion grow. Sinister strangers lurk in the shadows, whispering about how everything is soon to change. This year brought an unseasonably warm and stormy spring. Tales spread of flooding, windstorms, wildfires, and tremors. These troubles have a source known to few in the North: Elemental Evil. Servants of this malevolence gather in the Sumber Hills and spy on the Dessarin Valley, drawn by a force they can’t explain. Dabbling in dangerous lore, these fanatics seek to master elemental magic and unleash its destructive power everywhere. And they are further along in their plans than most people in the North realize. Four elemental cults grow in power in the Sumber Hills, claiming abandoned keeps that connect to an underground fortress once part of an ancient dwarven kingdom. Within those chambers are the remnants of a temple built by drow worshipers of Elemental Evil. Each of the four cults venerates a powerful entity of air, earth, fire, or water: a Prince of Elemental Evil. Like their princes, the four cults are rivals, yet they all serve a mysterious force they call the Elder Elemental Eye. A prophet gifted with a powerful elemental weapon leads each cult. Those weapons — Windvane, Ironfang, Tinderstrike, and Drown — were the catalysts for the creation of four elemental nodes, places where the Elemental Planes connect to the Material Plane. The cults draw elemental creatures through the nodes, and they use elemental magic to create devastation orbs capable of ravaging the countryside. They’ve been testing these magic weapons, bolstering the cults’ ranks, and infiltrating various communities, all directed by visions the prophets receive from the Elder Elemental Eye. In time, each prophet hopes to entice his or her elemental prince to pass through the node and wreak devastation on the Dessarin Valley and beyond.

About me

Greetings Adventurers! Hail and well met! Welcome to my lair. My name is Katrin. I have been playing TTRPGs since I got the Basic Box Set of D&D ... umm... decades ago. I also played Cyberpunk soon after. Once I started running games. It was, without question, the most crazy decision I've ever made, and it changed my life forever. Helping groups of friends tell amazing stories about high adventure has been the pleasure of a lifetime. I have created campaigns and run games in many TTRPGs and I am willing to develop a game around a group, my role as a DM is to provide the best possible experience to everyone at the table. I've achieved a balance between playing the game by the book while also allowing for fun "outside the rules" shenanigans. I believe in a well thought out, detailed world where players can solve issues in a variety of ways. I run multiple systems and games throughout the week. I enjoy both running long-term campaigns and helping newcomers feel welcome and get up to speed. Even when I run a pre-written adventure, I homebrew, and improvise to make the player's experience unique and personalized. This way you, the player, drives the narrative. Escapism brings folks from all walks of life together, and there is no better way to tune this world out than by diving into a different one. Thank you for your time and as always everyone, good gaming! I hope to see you at my table!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created on D&D Beyond either before or during Session Zero. I recommend a full set of polyhedral dice (or you may use the dice roller on D&D Beyond - But in my experience they always roll low) When you decide to join, please think of a character concept and message me the idea. We will have a session 0 to talk about backstory that might connect to this campaign. I will send you a link for D&D Beyond to join this campaign with your character and we will make your character right there. To message me about your amazing ideas you should friend me on Discord (Katrin#9646) or contact me with a character concept here on StartPlaying at least 48 hours before game time so we won't have to waste paid gaming time. I am typically on discord and not running anything from 2-4 pm every weekday.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Characters will be created on D&D Beyond either before or during Session Zero, You will need a mic & speakers for discord, a roll 20 account for maps. To message me, you should friend me on Discord (Katrin#9646) or contact me with a character concept here on StartPlaying at least 48 hours before game time so we won't have to waste paid gaming time. I am typically on discord and not running anything from 2-4 pm every weekday. Also You might want to send me an image of your PC to generate a Roll20 token for your PC and and familiar or animal companion your PC wants.

What Katrin brings to the table

I will provide the source materials via D&D Beyond, maps, Roll20 tokens, and a good time for all.

Safety

How Katrin creates a safe table

I allow a fair amount of narrative authority, but some things are set. Such as the deities and racial cultures of the world. Players are expected to keep up with their notes and character sheets (although the DM should always have an up to date copy) XP will be granted at the start of the session after it was earned. XP is granted for RP as well as finishing a quest, collected treasure and encounters completed. The DM doe not award killing blow XP to a single PC, but does divide XP amongst all who participated in the encounter. Session Zero will include discussion of safety tools and triggers. They can be discussed and should be discussed in a mature respectful manor. There is a checklist questionnaire that will need to be filled out at the end of Session Zero. Your reasons for wishing to have something excludes are not required… We do not require you to justify your triggers, only to let us know what to avoid. Bad things do exist in my games so the heroes have something to overcome and stop. Player’s may make characters of whatever gender and orientation they desire, but they are not allowed to pressure other players or PCs regarding relationships. All sex scenes will be treated as a fade to black and do not contribute towards character advancement. The standard races are listed in The Player’s Handbook. If you have a character idea that isn’t one of these races, talk to me. I will need to have full information on the race you want to play. There are source books for other races and I probably have them. Some racial tweaks might even be allowed. However, the DM reserves the right to disallow some races, classes, sub-classes & feats.
