About the adventure
Alien RPG is a space horror game for 3-5 players, based on the films produced by 20th Century Fox. Themes for the game include betrayal, corporate espionage, body horror, the terrifying and isolating vastness of space, and vulnerability against the unknown. The players are the crew of the USCSS Montero, a group of Space Truckers hauling cargo from one end of the universe to the other. They are awoken by the onboard ship computer, and given a task outside their normal mission. What they then encounter is something completely ALIEN. I have run this scenario multiple times, including once for popular TTRPG Youtube Channel Web DM (link, but big spoilers here! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvy9fNHbdSI). I have a solid understanding of the games rules, and am happy to easily explain them and answer questions for it while we play. Roll20 has the maps and characters all implemented (see images), making it easy for us to navigate the cramped hallways of spaceships and resolve actions quickly. This is a game where PvP (player vs. player) combat, either direct or indirect, is very likely to happen. Before beginning our story, we will have a 10-15 minute discussion re-emphasizing that aspect of the game, to ensure everyone is fully aware and onboard. It also an incredibly deadly RPG hor- encounters with a titular Alien can easily lead to the death of a PC (they can literally one-shot a character). Dying is NOT the end for anyone, however - any player whose character dies immediately takes on the role of an NPC. Think of it like a movie, and you're all actors - when one character dies, you simply play another. This scenario will take 2 sessions.

About me
Hi there! I've been tabletop gaming for nearly 16 years now, and have run games for podcasts, livestreams, and conventions. I was the co-owner of the gaming network Don't Split the Podcast Network, and have produced hundreds of hours of TTRPG podcast goodness. Some of my favorite things to GM: - Dungeons & Dragons for new players. Ever wanted to try D&D but know nothing about it? I'd love nothing more than to teach it to you and your friends, and show you first-hand why it's one of the fastest growing hobbies in the world. Bring yourself and an open mind to the table - I'll do the rest! - Spooky, atmospheric horror games. I really enjoy giving players chills as they encounter their first ghost, alien, or Lovecraftian horror in a TTPRG. - Nonviolent-focused RPGs. Tired of hitting goblins with your sword or shooting baddies with a gun? I've got several systems under my belt where creative nonviolent solutions are the best ways to deal with obstacles. Whether violence is discouraged because of real-world consequences (punch the bully and you're suspended from school!) or because it's simply ineffective (foolish human, your bullets do nothing to The Colour Out of Space!), being unable to fall back on swords and guns makes for a truly unique RPG experience.

Creating your character
Character summaries and portraits will be provided to the players beforehand, then character sheets and agendas will be given out during the first session.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will require a (free) Roll20.net account so they may join the game. You can feel free to read the rules beforehand, but all will be explained as we play! Maybe watch Alien once or twice to get into the mood.

How Rudy Basso creates a safe table
This game is setup like a film - it is broken down into 3 Acts, with escalating tension and stakes as it goes on. It is very role-play heavy, as players must choose one of the pre-generated characters made specifically for this adventure and are expected to fully embrace and not deviate greatly from their backgrounds. At the start of each Act characters are given personal agendas that should influence their actions and motivations. As with most Horror Films, there will be slowly exploring mysterious and frightening places and then sudden and deadly combat. Humans are squishy and Aliens are not, so direct combat should always be the last option if given an alternative. Planning and creativity are rewarded over trying to solve the problem by shooting everything! If you're familiar with the Alien Franchise, this game is most similar to the first film, emphasizing horror over action.
