R.A. runs his games like a choose-your-own adventure book with flavorful descriptions and clear choices. The game can feel a bit on rails at times, but he's added a lot of content to the game and is pretty open to unusual character concepts / builds. He's also a fairly casual, laid-back GM, with a flexible schedule.
I've been playing with John for almost a year now, and gotten the chance to try out some characters that I had been itching to play for years. He's a pretty traditional GM with a long history of incorporating PCs into his original world. Expect to meet a few on your travels. I'd say he's mostly combat oriented, with enough story to keep you engaged. He does an interesting thing where he launches a new campaign whenever players can't make it to a session, so generally you'll never miss out on the story and you'll get to play multiple campaigns in the same timeslot. It's pretty cool if you enjoy trying out different characters or builds. He does have a lot of house rules though, so don't expect this to be like other games of D&D. That said, most of his changes are for the better, and typically PCs are much stronger as a result. Otherwise he's generally pretty chill and laid back. Battles can be intense, but he encourages his groups to not take things too seriously.
