“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

“Roleplay Lite” games typically include some story and character interactions but keep the emphasis on other gameplay elements like exploration or combat. While these games can still feature character-driven moments, they tend to favor quicker scenes with less focus on extensive backstories or dramatic roleplay.

Roleplay Lite

“Tactical / Crunchy” games are all about mastering the rules and making smart, mechanical choices. These games place a strong emphasis on strategy, planning, and system knowledge. Players who enjoy complex combat, optimized builds, or detailed mechanics will feel right at home here.

I started playing Tabletop RPG's in 2013. I had a regular group every Friday and played for 3 years. I started Playing in D&D 3.5, but eventually found Pathfinder 1E. I moved 10 years ago and haven't played ever since. I'm champing at the bit to start again! I also want to GM, but baby steps first. I've found Pathfinder 2E and I'm totally hooked and want to play so bad, but haven't been able to find a group until now. I've found Startplaying! I love immersion and roleplaying characters. Pathfinder 2E seems to have nailed it, but I won't find out until I get playing. Either way it'll be a blast.
