We only played one session (plus Session 0) before the campaign ended. Joey has an enthusiastic energy, which is welcoming for new players. He makes an effort to involve all players in a scene/combat, although sometimes players were skipped or reordered. Pacing and organization were sometimes off. His DM style is focused on roleplaying over combat. It was unclear if we were in “combat” at times. One “combat” had only one solution that relied on one character’s specific feature. He had a lot of descriptions during exploration. However, most of it was theater of the mind, which was sometimes hard to follow. While he is open to creative character builds and customization, there was also some homebrew in the campaign (namely the use of passive perception and passive initiative) that minimized how much we actually got to roll. Joey is a good DM if you’re newer and looking for a game that has more roleplay and exploration. If you want more combat-heavy, you may want to look elsewhere.
