This DM is my husband. Prior to meeting him, I had heard of these types of games before, but never saw or experienced it for myself. I had a certain opinion about people who indulged in these games that was less than positive. I assumed that they were weird, intelligently lazy, and lived an unpleasant lifestyle. Shortly after our first meeting, he exposed this world to me. I consider myself a strong observer, and what I found was the opposite of my original thought. The people around me in that little game shop were full of excitement and were enjoying each other’s company. Listening to their stories with their characters and their knowledge showed that this game required tons of studying on each players part. Genuine fun in a safe space. Here, I was the outsider, but I was welcomed by everyone as if I had already been a part of the community. I loved watching his passion come alive. Watching his ideas that he had been implementing over the prior weeks come to life. While also noticing his players and their enthusiasm as his plans for the party unfolded. Now, nearly seven years later, I have had the privilege of attending many games. If he can change the opinion of a stubborn person like me, he must be talented in the art of creating these worlds. He puts in a tremendous amount of effort for all of his games. Each is a personal craft for him, so he doesn’t skip corners when it comes to running a campaign.
