I am not a particularly outgoing or extroverted person. Even after running D&D for kids for years, I get nervous roleplaying a character with other adults. Any nervousness was immediately quenched during my first session, and I have never felt more comfortable roleplaying with a group of what were once strangers to me. After ~20 sessions I would say that Deryn’s greatest strength as a DM is fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment. It is not easy to create an environment that is relaxed enough to feel like a bunch of friends hanging out, and at the same time a professionally run D&D game that is more than worth you money. And yet this is true due to Deryn’s expertise, inclusivity, and friendliness. With gameplay, they are an expert at creating player engagement. Particularly through balancing fun and creative actions with a fantastic understanding of fifth editions rules and balance. I have known many DM's that struggle with improvisation vs rules, Deryn is not one of them.
