Noralf . . . Is a great DM. I used to think I was a great DM, but I would rather play at Noralf’s table than my own. I started PBP in another game and that was fine — but it was clearly a side-hustle for the DM and it showed. The pace and depth at Noralf’s table is another level. He’s great at helping a beginner figure out AVRAE. He’s great at running combat with seven level 10 characters who throw high level spells and shenanigans in every direction. I fully expected the narration to be largely inserts from the published campaign, but Noralf actually runs NPCs full of personality. They interact with the party in ways that bring out our own back stories and personalities. Noralf appears in our “out of character” conversations at times, too, so it feels like a table —not like players on one side, DM on the other. I find myself pulling my phone out AS SOON AS I’m off work because I want to see what’s happening in the game. This group has quickly become part of my daily routine —in the best of ways. I don’t know how Noralf can keep up with everything in his world, his many games, but so far (a month or so in), I have felt very, very lucky to be a daily part of the Noralf-verse. Well, except for natural one I rolled in Intimidation the other day. That was embarrassing.
