So far, Josh has killed my father, saved my mother, threatened my child, and cursed me... And I've never been happier! Josh is a truly amazing DM and person. He was my first English-speaking DM (it's my third, non-native language), and I simply cannot believe how lucky I've been. Ahh, I don't know where to begin! First of all, I fell in love with Josh's DM-ing style/story-telling abilities literally the moment he started narrating our first session. You have no idea how good he is. I promise. The way he narrates and describes things is so fluid and alive, not even as if you were watching a film, but if you could see a scene from several different angles at once. I've never vitnessed anyone describing an introduction of a legendary creature the way he did it. Apparently, Josh is a fan of eldrich horror (as I!) and I would die happy if I had a chance to play in a campaign set in that style with him, since what I've experienced these past weeks was just so beautiful and vast, and immense, and truly out-of-this-world. I guess, a banal way to say it would be to say that Josh has an amazing imagination. But I was just stunned by the beauty and fluidity and complexity of it all. As to music and visual aid, the soundtracks are so, so good, and I loved how complimentary they were in a sense that I was barely noticing them, I was living through them. And sometimes, you get this perfect collision of events that are happening and music that makes everything even more poignant. Visual aids in our specific mini-campaign were absent, and I'm happy for them to remain this way. In my opinion, the complimentary pictures or maps should closely match the story, the tone, the style, as illustrations in a book. And such illustrations simply do not exist, and if we attempted to find them, they would ruin everything. For Josh's stories, I want either carefully curated commisioned art pieces, or nothing. They don't deserve anything less! As to the combat style, we're doing theater of the mind, which is my favourite style and thus is fine by me. I hate slow-paced combat and I'm not often in the mood to strategize and plan and measure distances and think three steps ahead. Oh, also, Josh allows us to do A LOT, and I love it. But it's always fair! Maybe it's because my party is just the best and we all are experienced players and DMs, but I feel very free though not in a messy, whacky, and unruled way. Ah, yes, the mysteries! Every session I'm surprised with something new and keep gasping at different turns and revelations. Josh is also truly inclusive on all levels. I'm neurodivergent, bi, and from Ukraine, and Josh's been supportive and understanding and proactive through all of that. I'm so indescribably happy that people like me, especially from an ND and LGBTQIA+ communities can have that - a truly safe space AND a high-quality, fun, breathtaking D&D experience. And, yes, Josh is FUN and we laugh a lot!
