When I first thought about playing D&D on StartPlaying I was incredibly apprehensive - what would it be like to pay to play this TTRPG that I love and how would it go trying to roleplay and gel with people that I've never met before? As I was looking for games, I made sure to read reviews about GMs and Squirrel's reviews were what ultimately sold me, and it was 100% the right choice. Other reviews have talked about the voice acting and improv skills that Squirrel possesses, and these reviews are completely accurate, and if anything, undersell Squirrel's skills (seriously, they're great). Instead, I want to focus this review on some of the other aspects of playing in a campaign with Squirrel that I've valued and appreciated. First, They are one of the most welcoming and friendly GMs I've ever had the pleasure of playing with and if you're not so tech-savvy like me, they're so fantastic and patient in helping you get set up with accounts and making sure the experience is smooth and seamless. More than that, though, what I appreciate about Squirrel is how they cultivate community. Everyone has been so friendly, fun, and welcoming and any fears or social anxieties I had about trying to roleplay with people I don't know immediately went away. If you're anything like I was and feeling a little silly about paying to play D&D or worried about not getting your money's worth, let me tell you that games with Squirrel are so fun, engaging, and enjoyable that I feel I'm getting an incredible bargain for the cost (and honestly wondering why I didn't tip my GMs from my previous games, or at least buy them more pizzas). If you're thinking about joining a game on StartPlaying and Squirrel has an opening that works for you, skip it to your own loss!
