Chris is my favorite gm, and I have been playing with him for years. He knows how to keep the balance between his story and your story. His main campaigns are often based off of other existing elements, but he throws in his own particular flare that always makes them so fun and interesting. However, one of his best qualities is that he values player freedom. If our party decided the best way to fight a magical famine was to use our combined powers to make our own farm rather than go find the source of the blight and end the curse, he would totally allow it! though you better watch out if you do that, because even if your heroes don't progress, the villains still do, probably with other heroes trying to stop them. Your efforts will be in just one part of the world, but the world at large is still spinning on, altering opportunities depending on when you get to them. Also, making friends along the way will often help out in various ways, such as helping you save a village from an attack you couldn't prevent. Just finished a oneshot with him and really wanted to add to my review. The oneshot was very cool. The circumstances were dashed with the modern concept of a monopoly on diamonds making resurrections several times more expensive than normal. We had to go in and steal some from the dwarven vault. There were lots of opportunities to make this easier on ourselves, and choices we had to make early on that we would later understand why other options would have been useful. however, we never hit a road block that prevented us from proceeding, as the adventure was carefully crafted that way. The adventure combined preparation, careful planning, opportunities from various skill checks, and seat of the pants ideas that could all come together and make us feel good about how we did on our adventure.
