I've been playing with Gabe since the early 90's. Highly motivated and technically super skilled, he always puts in the time to prep and it shows. He brings the setting to life with great background stories, excellent mood music and visual preps, and a willingness to bring in player's ideas and incorporate them into the campaign. This openness and creativity encourages players to add to the world building with not just great in game role playing, but out of game story writing by players, as well as some songs from time to time. Our most recent epic campaign, which lasted 4 years, had the players produce so many pages of novella like stories and recaps it would fill a book. As for myself, I didn't write as many stories, but during the campaign I played a couple of bards (among others) and was inspired to give the Weird Al treatment to over 20 songs, reworking the lyrics as a way of providing a musical history of the campaign. If you want to get "into" your character and really live a campaign, give Gabe a shot. Also, fair warning, for the more experienced players who enjoy tougher campaigns: If you want to experience the George R.R. Martin experience of having main characters get killed, a lot, give Gabe a chance. He will TPK your party with no hesitation, and you will love it, and come back for more. You probably deserved to get whacked anyway, made some dumb move you shouldn't have and now you gotta role up another dude. But good news, from tragedy comes inspiration.
