About me
Hey there my name is Jaquan Shockley and for the past 4 years ive been EXTREMELY passionate about D&D. Ive been a Dungeon Master for about 3 years now and hope to be for as long as I can to spread the joy and beauty of this game as far as I can. I also love to read books, eat LOTS of food and overall just enjoy life for what it has to offer. (My Origins in D&D below) One day while I was working for a delivery company out of state, I happened to have a day off and i decided to explore this state (Maine) that i had never been to before. On my exploration, I happened to find this tabletop shop, which at the time I thought was a video game store from looking at it on Google because that's what I was originally looking for. So i stopped on in and checked out what it was about. There were a bunch of people playing card games (Magic The Gathering but at the time, I didnt know what they were playing at all), there were a lot of mini figures and lots of boxed up games that were being sold. I decided to look around and i stumbled upon the D&D section that was by the wall. Now at the time, I knew like NOTHING about D&D except that it had a reputation for being a commonly known game that people get dressed up for and play in their basement, beyond that I was clueless. So I decided to buy the Starter Set for it and took it back to my hotel room. When I got back and opened up the box and started reading the book inside, I swear I thought I was reading Egyptian Hieroglyphics, I DID NOT understand a word what was in that book. The first thing I said was "HOW DO YOU PLAY THIS FREAKING GAME???" because the game at first wasn't clear on how to play, it was just giving me boxes of text and that was it. I got frustrated and I put the game away and when I got back to my home state from my delivery, I just put the game in my closet and I forgot about it. Fast forward about 5 months later, I was shopping at my local Gamestop just looking around and I saw this board game on a shelf called "The Adventure Begins", I saw that it was an intro game to D&D so I picked it up and started learning it. When i had finally learned to play the game and i played it with a few of my friends, THAT'S when my whole world began to change. "The Adventure Begins" was SO MUCH FUN, that i went back into my closet and pulled out the Starter Set that I bought out in Maine and furiously tried my best to learn it. About 2 months later after learning as much as i could, I had my first ever D&D session in my studio apartment with 4 of my friends. I will tell you now that THAT was the greatest time in my life playing D&D ad from that moment I never turned away from it and here I am now 4 years later doing my best to make this game known to as many people as possible. Trust me, don't get me wrong, I know there's so many tabletop games that I could play but D&D is just THAT game for me (before I discovered D&D my favorite tabletop game was Monopoly and now that comes in 2nd place). D&D is versatile, its mysterious, its limitless and there's so much that you can do with it that there is a level of fun for everyone that plays it even if you've never played before. The experience is your own and how you play makes the game even that much better. So thats my story of how I got into this wondeful game and I cant wait to be able to play a game for you sometime soon.
