TL;DR: Alty is a good guy overall. I enjoyed the atmosphere and voices he brought to the game quite a bit. I did not enjoy the inflated price tag, lack of commissions, or occasional flakiness from the GM. Find a cheap game with him (sub-$20) and enjoy some laid back, slow-paced fun. If commissions are promised like it says in his profile, do not expect to ever get those. Alty's game wasn't bad for what it was. Things were often slow-going or ill-prepared, and a lot of punches were pulled, but the game Alty provided was somewhat fun in its own right. He allowed more than enough time for roleplaying, but combat was always a slog. This wasn't totally on him, as we also had slow players or people that didn't pay enough attention, but he wasn't able to adjust to this in order to keep things moving along. He could also be a bit flakey, as he missed/cancelled multiple sessions due to sleeping through them or getting home late. This is review is definitely nit-picky, but when you're paying for a service, you expect that service to reflect its cost. Had Alty charged ~$10 for his game, I would have far fewer issues with it. However, Alty inflated the cost of his games to $25 by promising multiple solo and group based commissions for the party throughout the campaign. A bit expensive, but I was a fan of his work and happily paid the extra $15 for a total of $25 per week. While $25 might not break the bank for you, you do expect to get something for the extra money you spent. Unfortunately, (as far as I'm aware) Alty didn't provide a single commission for any of the multiple campaigns he DMed for the 4 months we played together. When asked, he said that a group he didn't gel with quit, but demanded their commissions and complained to StartPlaying about it. He said he HAD to finish this group's commissions first, before any of his remaining players got theirs. After 4 months, Alty stopped showing up for games and no one on his Discord server was able to contact him. I didn't hear anything from him until he recently showed up on the GM list offering new games. At this point, ~4 months had elapsed since our last played game.

I started on this site by joining a few games that sounded interesting, but I should have just filled up on Sphinx's games. Sphinx brings with him an interesting homebrewed world and a slight flair for the dramatic. He adjusts his style and rules to work with the players and create the maximum amount of fun. I don't write reviews often, but Sphinx has gone above and beyond. Join one of his games, you won't regret it.
