DireDM really does it all. I'm currently a player in their take on a Curse of Strahd campaign and have been impressed every week by his preparation, thoughtfulness, and adaptability. For me, a good DM, particularly in a horror campaign like this one, earns the trust of their players. By this, I don't mean that I feel my character is invincible or will avoid the negative consequences of their choices. Instead, I see this instead as an implicit covenant or contract: my choices will matter to the world of the game for better and for worse, and as a result, risky and dangerous choices come with real risks and dangers. Thanks to a combination of session 0 work, regular solicitation of feedback, and consistency in session, Dire has that trust from me. Dire is also great at making sure that the game works for different play styles and interests simultaneously by incorporating a variety of challenges, combat opportunities, ethical decisions, and puzzles into the story.
