Erik is a talented worldbuilder who puts an incredible amount of time and effort into his campaigns. He brings maps, splash pages, interesting NPCs and a talent for doing voices. In the campaign I'm in, the creativity is so impressive, everything is created from scratch from character creation on. The campaign I'm in, which was advertised as a gothic horror, fits the bill entirely, from mood to content. I was a later addition to this game and Erik was very good at integrating my character, to the point of building an entire mechanic and custom armor. I felt like I belonged in the group immediately. The sessions I've attended have been full of great roleplay, fun and unique combat, and interesting mysteries to solve. I would highly recommend Erik as a dm! Having a great time!
Ben is a the perfect dm for new players. They're patient and knowledgeable about the rules and have a good handle on how to describe them to new players without being pedantic. They accomplish this without alienating players who are very familiar with the rules. They bring great maps, music, and effects through foundry, and are patient about teaching that as well, which is great because their game is the first I've ever used foundry for. They bring a very welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, which definitely leads to feeling safer and enjoying play more when you're a queer person who is often the odd "man" out in D&D tables. Safety tools are in full use, and are encouraged rather than just tacked on as an afterthought. They have a talent for integrating your character into the story. I joined their game after a few sessions had passed, but they shaped the story in such a way that my character seemed like he had always belonged. Very satisfying for a player who is jumping in mid-campaign. Highly recommended!
I've been playing in a homebrew game with Sebastian for a while now and it's been a blast the whole time. Sebastian comes up with creative and unique storylines, interesting challenges for the party to face, and has an extremely good grasp of the rules, which makes play slow down a lot less than it has with some gms I've played with. I'd say the game I'm playing with him is a great balance of roleplay and combat, not so much roleplay that it starts to stretch out too long, but not so much combat that it feels like all you're doing is fighting. Everyone gets their moment in the spotlight, and he always makes failing a roll feel a little less disappointing than it could be. Highly recommended! Easily the best dm I've found through StartPlaying.
