Bh3llium is a wonderful DM and playing in his games are a highlight of my week. Some of his "great DM" qualities are ones that I've encountered in other professional DMs I've played with. He's a wonderful story-teller and brings the characters we meet on our journey alive. He is funny and enjoys his players. He makes space for our creativity and meets it with creativity of his own, so that our sessions very often spiral up to places we didn't know we could reach. He helps us to develop well-rounded characters and then not only works our stories into his story, but often lets our stories drive the collective story, but in a way that everyone feels engage and invested. And his space always feels safe no matter who you are. All of this is, again, wonderful But what truly sets him apart is the Planescape multiverse, his grasp of its many details, and his ability to immerse his adventuring parties in this rich, seemingly limitless setting. Most Dnd adventures take place on one of the many planes/worlds (Faerun, the Underdark, Avernus,...) in the Planescape multiverse. Planescape incorporates each of these worlds in all of their detail along with literally a hundred or so other worlds into a giant multiverse, seemingly spinning around the city of Sigil, and when you play in this Planescape setting, you can go all of these places. What truly makes Bh3llium unique is his thorough and detailed grasp of the Planescape, so that he can weave multiple stories that are playing simultaneously across this vast setting, hopping in and out of worlds for brief or extended visits. Wherever your group wants to go in their session (and there are no railroads in his games), he knows where that is, everything you will find there, the multiple ways you might get there, and you will always find a fun and challenging adventure in your travels once you've arrived. It's taken him decades to build this knowledge base, so there are few if any who could replicate it, and the level of freedom and engagement that he can offer in a game is the fruit of all of his work leading to your adventuring party's now. If you can play with Bh3llium, you should. It's wonderful
Rob has been great. I like a number of things about his games. His world is interesting--he has a rich, deep knowledge of it, and it's enough parallel to Faerun that you don't have to forget everything you know about the wider DnD world. He somehow manages to write plots that don't just include character stories, but makes them integral to the story. He engages players, but also makes room for them to play--to interact with each other--to let us make story through our interaction. He's good at voices and it really matters. (I know they say you don't have to be a voice actor to DM and I believe that, but it sure is fun if your DM is one.) I invest a good bit of time and money into my Dnd games--Rob really helps to make it worth my while.
