I got the awesome opportunity to play in a holiday one-shot with Nikki and had an absolute blast! She was very open in what we brought to the table (and even let me have Rudy, the flying reindeer mount!), and from the moment I joined the voice call, set a tone that felt enthusiastic, safe and fun. The session was paced well, with moments intentionally laid out for each party member to be able to narratively partake, shine in their own space and spotlight, and do well without feeling overshadowed. Narrative and role-play were the driving forces more than combat, but Nikki was versed in all the rules we needed during the combat encounters, and the combat I felt was scaled nicely! All around, I had an awesome time! I genuinely hope I'm able to play at her table again in the future, either for a one-shot or a full campaign. I heard about Nikki from my regular GM and he has praised her every time she's been mentioned for as long as I've played with him, so she comes very highly recommended. If you're on the fence about playing in an online game or you're new to TTRPGs, I can promise you'll feel fun and safe at her table!
I figured it was time to update my review. At this point, I have officially played 60 games in my campaign with StenBjorn, and have thoroughly, genuinely and wholeheartedly enjoyed all of them! The campaign I'm in is set in an intricately crafted world that has offered the party the ability to play, explore and experience wildly different environments and scenarios, all of which Pete has masterfully been able to portray in ways that feel fun, authentic and fleshed out. Weather we are planning heists, chasing down bandits, fighting in spaceships in the Astral Sea, or clearing out old Space Forts from long passed knightly orders, I am so excited each and every week to see where the story will take us and what is next in this fleshed out universe. Pete takes the time and care for each of his campaigns to know his world, know his rules, and know his players. He EXCELS in being able to fit a campaign to a style of play and bring in his players however they feel comfortable. He provides room for a balance of role-play, combat, and laughs. He openly invites the players to take part in the world building if they're so inclined, and firmly fit their characters in the world he creates, and strives to give those players a dynamic, interesting and unique world to have adventures in. Over the course of more than a year, I can think of very few, if any, times that I've asked Pete questions that he wasn't prepared for, and I've seen him roll with the punches on even the wildest of swings a player can make. He uses his VTT to the utmost of it's capabilities and combats flow as smoothly as you could ask for. All around, I'm more than a year into our campaign, and buckled in for another year if it takes us there, if you're wondering if you should join one of StenBjorn's campaigns, your answer should be yes!
