Coming in with an 8 year old, an autistic nephew in his 20's and 2 more for a 1st time session using all the bells and whistles of foundry VTT is a tall order. But this amazing DM pulled it off without a hitch. A quick orientation of the mechanics and off we were in an exciting adventure. Wonderful use of music and great voice acting to boot, I highly recommend you animal speak to the first cat you meet for a hilarious cat impression lol. I hope anyone coming across this DM gives him a shot because this group was very impressed by his adaptability patience and understanding of everyone at the table. Looking forward to our next sessions! 06/09/2024 Fast forward almost a year later. Just wanted to say thank you to our dm Geoff for the conclusion to the Waterdeep Dragon Heist. All your patience with my 9 year old kid and Autistic nephew, I know it wasn't easy. But I thank you for letting them experience DND and giving us something to look forward to for almost a year of amazing questing, tense moments and laughs. I wish you the best in all your future endeavors!
Finding something to do for an autistic nephew in their 20s and and a son under 10 that's entertaining is pretty tough. I figured maybe DND, but what DM would want such a challenge? This one did and he passed with flying colors. His maps look like an elementary school kid drew them, but they were still charming and amazing. My nephew was so happy after the one shot he was already asking to sign up for a long campaign. My son totally surprised me in a unique battle tactic that involved milking a cow, that led to butter and almost single handedly deafeting the boss. We all had a lot of laughs and a great time. Definitely recommend, oh but byom, bring your own music as it's my only minus from the stellar performance. Thanks again!
I still consider myself a beginner to this DND stuff but I know more now than I did. I've been playing for about a year in another campaign doing the lost mines of phandelver and gained most of my experience there. I really enjoyed all the freedoms on beginning this campaign as far as choosing any race and class you want. Yes there are broken combinations out there and choose them if you wish, it doesn't matter, this DM will kick your ass and enjoy it 😂. If he grows weary of your suffering he might do some godly intervention and a mob might be randomly taken out by a bolt of lightning from the sky as if he thinks he's Zeus himself 😂. He's well versed in his DM knowledge, and does some great voice acting as well. I really enjoyed the puzzles and encounters, you're not always just playing on the game map, there are some interesting situations you have to try to figure out and of course lots of dice rolls. If there's any criticism I can make, it would be the music. Maybe I have higher demands for the mood setting music, other than that, you should really try a game with this DM!
So I decided to take the plunge and try this D&D for the first time and I'm so glad I did. Cistern has a great way of explaining the mechanics of everything but also getting you to just jump in and start enjoying the game. I agree with his style of teaching being that you just gotta get in there and do it to learn. I'm excited for our next session, thank you for your patience and expertise 😁
