About ZeraBrit

My name is ZeraBrit, I'm in my early 40s, and I have been playing TTRPGs for as long as I can remember. As a kid I was introduced to D&D, but I was too young then to really grasp it. Years later I started playing with a group, D&D 4E was the system of a choice, and while it was a bit "gamey", the roleplay was the best part and got me hooked, even despite my undiagnosed autism at the time(Diagnosed in my 30s). Fast forward to playing a variety of systems, from Dark Heresy and Eclipse Phase to D&D 5E. 5E was what I had the most experience with until I was persuaded to try out Pathfinder 2E in recent years and I have never looked back. I have DM'd for D&D 5E in the past and now I only DM Pathfinder 2E as it hooked me completely and it didn't hurt with all the awkwardness with Wizards of the Coast. I like to tailor my DM'ing to whatever the group needs on a person by person basis. I would love to do more roleplay, but I understand that not everyone in a group is comfortable with it. I have the most experience with running combat heavy campaigns, with tactical NPCs when it is demanded. Though I would really prefer to do a balance between roleplay and combat, and I absolutely adore puzzles and mystery and working with players to come up with something unique for their characters. Often creating personalized items and gifting their characters new abilities/items for their players real life birthdays. If you resonate with this then I would love to DM for you!

I became a GM because

Because I love making characters and world building. I also enjoy collaborating with others to build out a story with them, and I love giving characters custom items/abilities/spells as rewards. Also, scheduling being the final boss means I can schedule the time for others to pick from.

My favorite system of all Time is

Pathfinder 2nd Edition, I have played a few other systems, predominantly D&D 5th Edition and nothing has grabbed me like Pathfinder, the world is just as good any other fantasy world. The balance of the system and that there are rules for almost literally everything is especially important to me.

When I'm not running games I'm...

I'm streaming a variety of games on Twitch. Working on games, whether it's maps, puzzles, hooks or storybuilding and worldbuilding. Or familiarizing myself with other areas of the systems/worlds I DM for or play in. Hanging out with my other friends and streamer friends.

How ZeraBrit runs games

I tailor my style as much as I can to what my players want. I would love to do more roleplay, if the group is right for it. I am very used to tactical combat encounters and dungeon crawling with mystery and puzzles. I always try to work with my players to build their backstory into the world, so long as it fits the narrative or could be close to fitting, within reason. I'm semi-serious when it comes to narrative and gameplay, fun and games are all fine and accepted, but I like to have my players have a sense of agency and urgency with their party. I am very "Rules as Written" as it maintains balance between characters and NPCs, but I also do entertain "Rule of Cool" should it be possible or a close to a possible outcome, though I do try to have a failure state to give players a sense of urgency. Because I am always of the opinion that there are no truly wrong answers in a TTRPG(Unless you go full murder hobo) as failure can lead to much more interesting moments and team building in a party. I am generally a generous DM when it comes to items, not so much in the amount, but moreso in that I like to introduce items, or even abilities, that are unique to a players character. If a player has a birthday I will gift them something above to their character. For Pathfinder 2E specifically as that's the system I play with; I play with Free Archetype by default. But I very easily accept Ancestry Paragon and Gradual Ability Scores.

I deal with rules issues by...

If there is a rules dispute, I ask players in Session 0 to go with a ruling I make in the moment and then we can talk about it between sessions to come up with a definitive answer to the issue. Or come to a compromise. That way the issue will eventually get resolved without slowing down the game.

Rules are...

Are there to maintain balance between players and DM alike, so some people don't feel like a background character to others' escapades. However, if it makes sense in the moment, I allow the Rule of Cool, but give it a failure state, things going wrong creates the opportunity for better stories.

When it comes to voices

I like to try using voices, so players know it's something in character, I may not do them if my voice is sore or not doing well. I'll describe who is talking and ping them on the map to let you know. I don't mind if players use voices or not, clarification of out of character comments may be asked.

ZeraBrit's ideal table

I have a semi-serious tone, laughing and joking is ok, but getting serious when it gets serious is something I really look for. I enjoy giving my players agency and at times an air or urgency and risk. I like to have a mix of roleplay, tactical combat, puzzles, exploration and downtime. Does the group wanna do some downtime, great, lemme know, especially for crafting. Do you want a "campfire moment" for roleplay, go for it, I'm all ears and fingers as I scramble to note down specifics of the conversation.

I am for a vibe that's...

Semi-serious in tone. I don't mind laughing and joking or comedy, but I like my campaigns to have some sense of urgency and risk for players. And I absolutely adore groups that work together, roleplay, enjoy puzzles, exploration, a little mystery and tactical combat when it fits.

I love it when a player

Sticks to their character concept and works with the party to achieve all of their goals. I am also a big proponent of downtime, especially for crafting, I love crafting in TTRPGs(Thank you Pathfinder for having crafting rules!) and people coming up with other fun stuff for their downtime.

My table is not the place for...

Lone wolves, muder hobos and chaotic stupids. There are certain DMs who don't mind these character/player types. I'm not one of them, this is collaborative storytelling. At most, you may play a loner type with me, but there needs to be a reason for you to be in the party, otherwise what's the point.
