About Unipants
Hello, I'm Unipants! I've been a tabletop gamer for my entire life, so nearly 40 years at this point. I've enjoyed everything from Chutes and Ladders to games like Gloomhaven and Eclipse, and many more in between! I've been playing D&D for about 5 years, and I've taken the dive this year into DM-ing. I've done some one shots and am now looking into running campaigns. I was a theatre kid in high school and loved telling stories, and getting to build out the stories with players is an exciting prospect!

I became a GM because
I enjoy telling stories. I'm a theatre kid at heart and getting to collaboratively build dynamic, living stories is something that doesn't get to happen much outside of TTRPGs.
My favorite books are
The Dark Tower series by Stephen King; Lord of the Rings; Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
When I'm not running games I'm...
Spending time with my kids; reading; playing video and board games with friends.
How Unipants runs games
I do my best to strike a balance between RAW, RAI, and Rule of Cool. The sessions I run ideally have challenges for the players so they can feel the reward of solving the situation, but also acknowledge that the players are playing powerful characters and should feel that way. I view the game as collaborative storytelling, and give players some leeway as such. If they have a cool idea that isn't clearly disallowed by the rules I'm very open to discussing how to make it work (or set up some rolls to see if it'll work!). I love to roleplay and love when my players really dive into their characters, and will gladly adjust as needed to allow the RP to feel meaningful! For combat, I try to make combat scenarios that have real impacts on the story. The enemies have their own agency and aren't just filler enemies; they are going to act according to their motivations and that may present unique or interesting scenarios as combat continues.

I prep by
Getting a general layout of how the next session might progress: NPCs, combat, critical conversations, etc. From there I try not to dive too much further into the minutia since the players will be pushing things along and may change everything at the drop of a hat.
Rules are...
More a set of guidelines. I try to strike a balance between RAW and RAI....if the rulebook doesn't explicitly disallow something, I'm willing to hear what you want to do and how it would thematically work!
When it comes to voices
I try my best! I'm far from a voice actor, but I do try to add some flavor to my characters to keep things lively. I will also throw in some (terrible) accents when appropriate.
Unipants's ideal table
My table is there to allow the players to have fun. Players should feel comfortable exploring their characters and making them unique, interesting, and all their own. My table doesn't require any sort of min/maxing to get the most out of the experience, so if someone wants to bring an unusual build or an uncommon pairing, I'm all for it! I do my best to run the table in the direction the players enjoy, but I like to sprinkle a mix of combat, puzzles, and RP into all my games. Giving players multiple avenues to potentially resolve an issue is part of the fun.

I love it when a player
Does the unexpected. You want to convince the Queen to overthrow the king? OK, let's roll for it! You want to speak with animals to convince the feral bear to stop attacking? Let's see if the dice gods will bless your boldness!
I think min/maxing...
Has a time and place, but is not for every campaign/one shot. I can and will run one shots or campaigns that have min/maxing, but the flip side of the coin is I'm going to use that to build out some truly difficult situations and combat!
My table is not the place for...
Hatred of any kind. My table is a safe, open place for anyone that wants to throw some dice. Every single person should feel welcome, safe, and should leave the game feeling like they had a great time.
