Long before I ever rolled my first D20, I was a fantasy nerd who loved imagining myself on epic quests discovering magic and monsters. One day, I attended my college’s D&D club… which felt like discovering a magic spell: with the right group of people, the game could transport us to a world of sheer imagination, at least for a few hours. As a DM, I always try to balance my games with a good amount of roleplaying, exploration, and combat… however, my philosophy is that roleplaying always comes first. Roleplaying isn’t just about speaking in character or doing a silly accent - that’s optional. It’s about buying into the fantasy of being a hero on your own personal journey, and to truly be invested in your character, the adventuring party, and the world they fight to protect. Of course, it takes some skill as a DM to portray the world in a way which merits such investment. My technique involves portraying the world naturalistically - every NPC and monster should have reasons for doing the things they do. I have also developed a personal style for describing scenes which is visceral, detailed, and when appropriate, spectacular. There’s no way to guarantee that I am the right DM to deliver that heroic fantasy for you. I can only promise my commitment to portraying a fantasy world in all its beauty, quirks, and dangers. If you meet me halfway and commit to roleplaying a character who lives in that world, and fights for that world… then maybe, with a bit of luck, we can create a story to lose ourselves in.
