About Hornet-DM
Hello I’m Hornet! I’m 29 years old and have been playing D&D since 2018 and GMing since 2019. I owe my introduction into D&D to Brian Murphy and NADDPod. I love how fun, wild, silly, serious, heart-wrenching, and emotional D&D and TTRPG’s can be. I started off GMing games for friends and mutuals. Now, I am excited to run one-shots and mini-campaigns for others. If you’re looking for a player-focused game with a balance of silliness and seriousness then I’m your guy! My games are LGBTQIA+ inclusive and expect respect for everyone no matter race, gender, religion, or creed. I also ask players to avoid the use of AI for their characters, including art. While not outright banned, I prefer no AI in my campaigns. I do not use AI in any part of my GM set-up or running my games. I am focusing on running games for newer players looking to get into D&D or trying it out for the first time. I run established Wizards of the Coast modules aimed at lower levels to help introduce players to the world as I was. My first campaign was Lost Mines of Phandelver and have fallen in love ever since! Profile Picture by misha.makowka

I became a GM because
I love worldbuilding, roleplaying, and playing D&D! Being the architect of my own games was the natural step from being a player.
When I'm not running games I'm...
(and not at my day job) I’m out on hikes in nature, playing rouge-lites, and recently Magic the Gathering.
How Hornet-DM runs games
I enjoy a balanced game! Specifically, a balance of silliness and seriousness, as well as roleplay and combat. I am a player-first GM, allowing player freedom in their actions and character creation as long as it doesn’t contradict the world or the story. It is of utmost importance to me that players feel they have agency over their characters. I don’t tend to run sandbox games, but love an open world with a narrative constructed throughout for players to explore. For now, I will be running one-shots and mini-campaigns, with a focus on beginner friendly games!

My games focus on...
player agency and enjoyment. At the end of the day D&D is a game and everyone should be having fun and a good time, and I view it as my job to facilitate that!
Rules are...
important for the structure of the game, but not something to be beholden too. The Rule-of-Cool exists for a reason.
When it comes to voices
I encourage players to use and find a character voice, but never require it. I love giving my NPCs voices, though they are often quite bad (I am no professional VA).
Hornet-DM's ideal table
My tables are inclusive and for everyone! While everyone can make any character as they want, I expect each player to want to work and play together. This is a collaborative game we are playing together, there isn’t room for players to be combative with each other (though tension between characters can be fun when everyone is on board!). There is also no place for bigotry or hatred at my table. Everyone is included and in my worlds people of all races, genders, and sexuality can be found. While I often include serious tones and themes in my stories (such as eldritch horror or political tensions), my ultimate goal is to make a comfortable and silly table where players can feel free to express themselves however they wish.

I love it when a player
fully engages with the world and NPCs around them!
I think min/maxing...
can be really fun, but the character should still have backstory, motivations, and a story.
