About The Dungeon Scribe
Hello!! My name is Andy and I have been immersed in the Dungeons & Dragons world since I was around 15-years-old. I started being a Dungeon Master for my group of friends in my early 20's and let’s just say I was hooked!! I am a 48-year-old working dad now and I still love Dungeons & Dragons just as much as I did back then, perhaps even more to be honest. I am extremely excited to run games on this platform, meet new people, and most importantly, HAVE FUN DOING IT! In addition to being an experienced Dungeon Master, I am also a content creator on DMs Guild where I have designed and written several of my own products which have been downloaded over a thousand times! I am very detail oriented, a great writer and map maker, and I am very good at making you use your brains! Ultimately the game of Dungeons and Dragons should be a fun experience, and I will always do everything I can to ensure that you enjoy the story, the world, and the characters along the way. My campaigns are also good for a few good laughs as well. I believe adding a little comedy to my campaigns to be an absolute must. I mean life is short, if you’re not laughing you’re not doing it right. I am new to this platform, but I hope you will come and experience the game with me. I have been working extremely hard on "The Black Blood Tide", and it is going to be an amazing campaign. I will be waiting!!

My favorite shows/movies are
My favorite shows and movies are anything medieval themed. Big surprise right? I have always loved anything medieval, and this love is one of the things that drew me to Dungeons & Dragons to begin with. I have always said I feel like my soul belongs in the middle ages.

The three words most of my players would use to describe me would be, detailed, creative, and invested. Honestly, I am just guessing but I always put great amounts of detail in my writing, map making, NPCs and really all of my campaign content. I work hard to create great visuals.
How The Dungeon Scribe runs games
Much like the popular phrase in Pirates of the Caribbean, I believe that the core Dungeons and Dragons rulebooks are "More like guidelines than actual rules." With that being said I do believe that they should be followed heavily, and I will always do so unless I personally feel like bypassing a rule improves the game experience. In other words, "The Rule of Cool" is welcome at my table, but only if I feel it to be justified. I do not allow PVP in a campaign unless it is written into the stories narrative. I insist that my campaigns and those participating in them work as a team, be kind to eachother, enjoy the experience as a group, and most importantly have fun. I love to incorporate humor into my stories, but not at the expense of the overall narrative. I like to balance all of the elements of my stories so that they are equal parts humor, action, suspense, mystery, risk, and strategy. I also wholeheartedly believe that interactions between the players and NPC's as well as the world around them are just as crucial as encounters and battle. As a DM (GM), I prefer building my own stories, campaigns, and sometimes even the worlds that the story takes place in. My campaigns have always, for the most part, been born from my own imagination and creativity. I am not a voice actor by any means, or good at accents. However, I will often attempt to shift my tone or behavioral speech patterns to give a unique realism into creatures and NPCs. With that being said, if you do not feel comfortable using accents or period correct speech patterns, you can be comforted by the fact that it is not necessary. I do however ask that you try to be mindful of modern-day slang and the like. For instance, a warrior from the Middle Ages is not going to walk up to someone and say, "What's up my dude", or "What's clackalackin?" Anyway, you get my meaning.

I deal with rules issues by...
If there is an issue with a rule during a campaing or a session, I am a very open minded DM. Lets discuss it respectfully. I will never tolerate any type of disrespectful or unfriendly behavior toward me or any of the players. We have access to the rule books. A rule can always be researched easily.
If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings)
Rules are...
A direct quote from the DM's guide says it all. "The D&D rules help you and the other players have a good time, but the rules aren't in charge. You're the DM, and you are in charge of the game."
The Dungeon Scribe's ideal table
I like players that are friendly, able to focus on the story, and fully engaged in the game and their character. Players at my table need to be there for one reason, to have fun and get lost in the unfolding narrative. I want players that don't take things too seriously, while at the same time are actively interested in the game and their character and what is happening. To play at my table you absolutely need to be a good sport, and have a good attitude. Otherwise, the other players will be affected as well as the entire game. Take the game seriously, dont be disruptive or distracted, and be respectful towards everyone at the table first and foremost. (No phones at the table or in your hands please.) By all means keep your phones close by, if you recieve a call or a text you need to get you are more than welcome to do so. The Open Door safety tool is designed to let anyone step away from the table if they feel uncomfortable with the content or for any other reason. I like to expand upon this and want all of my players to know that you are not chained to your chair. If you need to step away for a moment it is perfectly understandable. However, disrutptions and distractions or players not paying attention or being actively engaged is a drag on a D&D campaign and it is my job as a GM to ensure the best experience for every dollar my players spend. So while it is perfectly fine to step away for a phone call or text when necessary, sitting at the VTT with your face buried in a phone screen is simply not fair to the other players. You must be actively engaged. This will be talked about more during my session zeros. Keep in mind that this is 'pay to play' and it is not just one person's money. Everyone at the table is paying for an enjoyable experience. It only takes one person to take away from that. As a GM I reserve the right to respectfully remove a player from a group when they do not fit well with the other players, the content, the style of play, or their behavior is having a negative effect on the experience of the group. This is not something I will do lightly however, and if it does happen, that player will be refunded for that individual session. I am not new to being a DM/GM, but I am new to Start Playing. Also, I would like to assure anyone booking a spot in my campaigns that I will never charge for a session zero.
