About ThatGMApollo

Hey there! I'm Apollo, and I've been playing tabletops off and on since the early 90s. I got back into the swing of playing online and dungeons and dragons 5th edition almost a decade ago, and switched to pathfinder 2nd edition head first after the OGL debacle. Now I'm addicted and want to help show you how awesome and not scary pathfinder 2e is. I enjoy pushing the narrative in a story while seeing how individual players and tables can change and adapt tellings to themselves. I've been running games on foundry for over 5 years at this point, so I'm very comfortable with the medium. I've run many groups full 1-20 campaigns, and some that are on their 3rd+ full campaign with me! My players should be self-reliant and motivated about their characters as we progress through a story. Unlike 5e, player agency to know what your character is capable of is required, so if this is your first foray into pathfinder 2e, come at it with only that expectation. "The GM will teach me the rules and how to play, but I am responsible for learning my character."

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Dedicated, fair, amicable

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing MMOs, couch coops, rogue likes, or anything else that has my attention. Sometimes on skip-nights, some groups will instead play games together on Xbox pass or steam.

I became a GM because

I genuinely enjoy playing the host. I loved it when I was bartending, but the product wasn't ideal. Now I get to host online get togethers, not serve a product that is actively killing people, and not deal with drunks unless I want to? SOLD!

How ThatGMApollo runs games

It's the story we all tell together that gets me ultimately. I try to focus my dm'ing on a balance of what I know makes a great game - vibe, group interest, story telling, role playing, engagement, group/gm receptiveness, handling problems in the moment - allwhile being receptive to feedback to tailor an experience to the group. I am extremely adaptable and able to react on the fly. I attribute this to working over 20 years in the service industry, most of which has been bartending, waiting tables, management, and customer facing jobs.

My games focus on...

The players having fun. That's the biggest part for me, especially coming in as a paid game. You shod be entertained, hooked, and have and open door to tell me why you are or aren't.

When it comes to voices

The best voices are just really really bad impressions.

I deal with rules issues by...

Solving it in under 2 mins, usually quick friendly discussion and archives of nethys references, or rule something interim fairly and move on until I can find the answer.

ThatGMApollo's ideal table

Big laughs, great player agency, high production and meaningful features that enhance a virtual tabletop experience and not bog it down with clutter and bells & whistles. Theres room for "audience" players, sure, but the ones that have some self drive and want to engage in the role play will thrive at my tables.

I love it when a player

Asks "can I...?" Yes. Or if no, let's find out how you can or what you're missing to make it happen.

My perfect party mix is

Both merciless in combat, and resonates so well with eachother that I'll struggle internally to push the narrative or guide what's happening in some way.

My table is not the place for...

Spoilers. I'm the most chill GM ever, but oh heaven help you if you maliciously spoil a story for someone. No. Bad! *squirtgun*
