About Steve

Turned 33 years this year. Playing Pen&Paper since I was around 14 years old. Started with DSA (Das schwarze Auge) as a player. Switched to GM after 2 sessions because I realized that experiencing an amazing and entertaining story, with my friends, was more important to me then playing one character. I tried lots of different systems (Das Schwarze Auge, Shadowrun, D&D, Ironswon, Blades in the dark and many more) but nothing really "clicked" with me. Then I played Dungeon World and Apocalypse World...holy moly that was my style. Monsterhearts also joined my experience. I realized that heavy rules are not for me. I like to improvise and those games gave me the tools to do what I like the most and have an amazing time as a GM. If you want to check rulebooks and play by the book then I am not your GM. If you want to be creative and expand our world with your own ideas then see me as your GM for an entertaining time.

I became a GM because

letting my friends experience an exciting adventure is great source of fun for me. Seeing my friends (and later other people) be invested in a story I guide them through is awesome

My favorite shows/movies are

Media I never get bored to watch. In no particular order: - Angry Video Game Nerd - Stargate - Ugly Americans - Dredd - Star Wars: The Clone Wars -> especially the later seasons

People are always surprised when I tell them

That Live Action Role Playing (LARP) is my main job. It´s my main method as experiential learning facilitator / adventure educator

How Steve runs games

I love to give my players all the freedom they can handle. Rule of cool is my go-to playstyle. Cinematic and "cool" fighting styles will find a good home with me. Heavy roleplaying and doing something "because that´s what my character would realisticly do regardless of the consequences" are things I like. "Can I exploit X/Y/Z?" or "I want to kill that innocent person!" are things I don´t like so much. Do I have a deep and interconnected world from the get-go? ->No Do I craft intense, tactical combat? -> Sometimes Do I railroad my players? -> Never Do I love roleplaying? -> Yes Do I have a plan? -> Yes, most of the time Plans can change? -> Yes. Improvisation is one of my greatest strengths Can my players do the most crazy or mundane things ever? -> Yes -> I still try to push the "mainstory" but if the groups wants to focus on "Smedgy" the one eyed goblin which I just came up with because they "wanted to speak with someone interesting" then this NPC is now important to the story because the NPC is important to you We can create and form the world together? -> Yes, please! I welcome your ideas to enrich our world!

My games focus on...

fun of the players. "If it´s not fun, why bother?" is a good describtion how I like to run things. Everybody comes together for an exciting adventure time and I want to respect that

Rules are...

meant as guidelines for the GM and players to have fun. If the rules don´t bring fun it´s ok to bend them to the groups will

When it comes to voices

I try my best to mix it up and give each character a unique voice. I am no voice actor so my range is not as big as I would like it to be

Steve's ideal table

Relaxing atmosphere, everybody gets a chance to say something. Sometimes there are discussions about rules and it´s ok if people get loud. In the end we find a solution which is alright with everyone. People who are more focused on the talking aspect of the game instead of rule crunching will find a welcoming place at my table. We are here for a good and fun time. Let´s achieve that together!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

stories While sitting in a park with a bunch of friends, I realized that stories are sticking with people far longer and more intense then any single event ever could

I love it when a player

wants to do mundane/stupid/fun things because that´s fitting for his/her character. I love the roleplaying aspect and cheer when players follow their character concept

My table is not the place for...

Metagamers and rule or dice crunchers. That is not my type of fun. I want to experience an exciting story with you and your characters. Failing a roll or making use of "bad" traits or skills makes for the best stories
