About Jacob
Hello, My name is Jacob and i am a huge dark fantasy and improv writer. My favorite systems are cyberpunk red and dnd 5e. I have been dm'ing for more then 9 years now, and I am excited to run more games in the future. Rn my main Campaign I am working on is Elthral, a fantasy world taking place in its own hb universe, where lesser gods exist in the material plane, and events have decreased the light of the sun, causing the events of the late 200 years to go dark, as regions lose themselves in hunger driven wars. Interested in joining, Im looking to host these games on request, so let me know and i can see what i can do. I run all my games online, with discord and roll 20

How Jacob runs games
I like to dm in a way where the players always know what they can do next, with action and role play situations being eventful and common. I like encounters that can feel like the odds are unfair, to motivate using creative strategy or consumable items, many players ask me "where we suppose to beat that encounter" and I say that's the best I can do. I like working with people to make characters and token art. I have a few limits in character creation, i dislike when a character has a goal that may lead them to drag the party away, such as killing a npc in a specific region, or starting a company that sells potions. These ideas are not bad in a vacuum, i just feel it can outshine everyone else if given the attention it needs to not be a lame idea. best case everyone has to tag along, worse case its just ignored. I like situations where players can communicate and talk about other players, as I feel that makes the cast feel more connected. This is why i do a bond system, where at the start of each session you say what your character feels about each player character, to gain xp based on your level for each player character you mention, in a none xp game i may just give inspiration. I run some rules loosely at the start of games, this is to get a vibe, such as AC if meeting the number is a fail I will do a vote the first time it happens and we will stick to it after, and in general i usually have monsters act in more spontaneous ways, not just moving and attacking, can lead to smart monsters calling out lingering spell effects, or strong monsters throwing other monsters at players in the back. Player agency is my strong suit, but conflicting agency is up to a double consent policy, this means if a player wants to steal ur mothers amulet, if you disagree with this the rogue simply cannot perform this action, even if he has +23 slight of hand. This is the only meta game rule, but its to avoid situations where a player just messes with another in a way that can harm that players fun, such as stealing, grappling, attacking, or casting a spell. If you do grapple or steal or attack a player and they are ok with it only then can that action happen. That's basically how I roll, and in general I may have some hb rules but nothing that crazy.

I deal with rules issues by...
Thinking about how it will effect the fun of the game, or making it a vote
My games focus on...
Hero's fighting Evil, but not all Hero's are good
Rules are...
the tools of structure, but shouldn't take away from the fun of the game
Jacob's ideal table
Most if not all players are welcome, The general vibe is slow and chill, I like to run things like bonds before each session, and I like understanding what the players remember from last session.

I think metagaming...
Is fine if it can be within reason, in a world of dungeons and dragons its reasonable that the hero's may know more then the players
My table is not the place for...
Strong gimmick characters, leave the main story hooks to me please
