About Josh V

There are so many campaigns to experience! If I stick to my own group, I'll never get the chance to, so I'm branching out and opening the door to playing online as a DM. After making a big move across the country, my group got used to playing through Foundry, so I've grown comfortable with VTT and find it works really well for PF2e - almost better than in person. My first experiences with TTRPG were in play-by-post campaigns - I did WoTC Star Wars campaigns, as well as Mutans and Masterminds, and some Call of Cthulhu ones. In person, I've done D&D 4e, PF1e and 2e, Mutants and Masterminds, City of Mists, Star Wars (WotC & FFG), Henshin, Alien, and Tales from the Loop, among others! Earliest campaign was about twenty years ago when I was about 12 with Star Wars, but over the years I've done several campaigns. My most recent were a homebrew setting in PF2e that ran for a year before concluding around level 7, and currently I'm doing a home game of a Curse of Strahd conversion in PF2e that is about to hit the year mark and level 6. When I was younger, I used to love the combat of these games, but recently fell in love with being able to live in a fantasy world and create stories that truly incorporate the inputs of my players to hopefully create something that feels alive and ever-changing. Focusing on PF2e, I love the flexibility of the system while still having a crunchiness that encourages teamwork, and mechanics that encourage roleplaying.

How Josh V runs games

I enjoy both roleplaying and crunchy combat. However, my focus is definitely on the roleplaying portion - I never expect combat every session, and will often go 2-3 sessions with no combat encounters. I try to do voices, as voices can often help players differentiate between NPCs, but I'm hardly a master. And I don't expect voices from my players, either! While I like to follow rules, I am not afraid to break rules to encourage cool and cinematic moments. I also am open to player input, as long as things are discussed between sessions and no during gameplay. I'd rather make a quick judgement during gameplay and then try and research an issue between sessions to keep the experience smooth.
