About Sprout

I was introduced to TTRPGs by a friend and played for 1.5 years before I became comfortable enough to try out GMing myself. My games feature a wide range of themes including cozy and whimsical, bright fantasy, and dark fantasy. I portray worlds that you can fully immerse yourself in and bring in NPCs you will love (or love to hate). I take pride in the time and care I put in making every combat unique and memorable from special puzzle-like combat mechanics to environmental advantages and hazards. As a GM I am dedicated to making every moment of the adventure, from when you decide to join my game to the very last scene of a multi-year campaign, be a memorable experience of collaborative storytelling between friend. At my tables we aren't just playing a collaborative story-telling game with shiny math rocks, we are building friendships and a community. If this sounds like a good time to you then my table is a good fit for you! I have a passion for worldbuilding and adventure writing I have two homebrew worlds I work on although they are not polished for public display my players seem to enjoy them and that is what matters to me.

I got started GMing...

Because I felt a need to build a homebrew world and the it exploded into players existing in it.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

D&D it's a classic, it's safe and reliable. Mythcraft, it's new and shiny and I want to try running games in it. Anyone solo ttrpg - for when I need time for myself.

My favorite books are

Iron Widow and Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao, anytime I have a chance to shout out this incredible author I will do so. Honourable mention to Water Outlaws by S. L. Huang

How Sprout runs games

I would describe my GMing style as "narrative-forward" and supportive. My ultimate goal is to have the players enjoy themselves and feel empowered to make decisions that align with their character while respecting the time of the other players at the table. In my games players are encouraged to pause and seek advice and encouragement from the table if they are unsure about a course of action to ensure everyone's time at the table is respected. I also employ the "rule of cool" a lot in my games because I like to see people succeed than to bar success with the rule of law. I create unique worlds with memorable NPCs for the players to interact with in various scenarios from combat, intrigue, or even romantic. Player actions will influence the world around them and I take steps to ensure every player at the table is enjoying their experience whether it is helping a player understand the games rules, incorporating their ideas or backstories, or working with them to build the character they want to play. At my tables I promote an atmosphere of inclusivity and encourage Queer, BIMPOC, and Neurodivergent individuals to sign up and encourage them to be their authentic selves. In terms of combat I plan high-stakes tactical combat encounters that incorporate unique homebrew mechanics, taking inspiration from all sorts of different media. I also develop a narrative that ties in player backstory and even invite the player to participate in the worldbuilding, although with some limits.

I once ran a session...

That was a murder mystery and the solve was that a person's pet snake was the killer.

My games focus on...

The player experience. Whether it's teaching rules, working with character changes, or resolving conflict I try to run games that centre the experience of the players.

When it comes to voices

I try my best. Voices are the weakest part of my DMing and I think that's okay. I would like to improve however so if anyone would like to send a tip or two.

Sprout's ideal table

A table that vibes well together and supports each other. If a player hasn't spoken I like when I see another player pull the quieter player into the scene. I encourage players, especially new players, to talk above table and say "my character thinks... therefore....they will do this. What does everyone else think?" And from there proceed with a discussion and finally playing out the scene. I have found this style of above table talk helps the table build trust with each other and later the discussions occur less frequently because the groundwork of trust has been built.
