About smoldeaner
The first time I played DnD, my friends and I all made characters, but we had no GM. That was the start of my GM career 8 years ago. I've been GMing on and off since then, and I've reached a point in my TTRPG adventures where I want to run long campaigns in homebrew worlds, and this platform seemed like a pretty good way to do it! I love worlds where being LGBTQIA+ is the norm, POC are everywhere, and cities are ADA compliant! My tables are the same way: we follow the platinum rule, accommodations are part of session 0, and everyone at the table gets grace for being human. Even I will ask for it: I'm operating with a chronic illness and some days I won't be at the top of my game! I make my tables safe for everyone because I need them safe for me too :)

I became a GM because
I want to know all the systems in the background of a world. How do the taxes here affect people over there? What risks would a certain political actor take compared to another? What criminal underbelly would pop up in response to the conditions? I just want to know all the things!
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Safe, goofy, engaging (I think/hope🤞)
How smoldeaner runs games
My top priorities are safety, accessibility, and inclusiveness. At the table we're a group of folks in the same writer's room, working together to make a good story. I do my best work when my players give me backstories that hold the narrative knives I'll stab them with later (with consent of course). We're a bunch of adults playing make believe with other adults: it's meant to be fun! It's not that serious! Mysteries are at the core of my style, and I maintain the vibes. I like to balance roleplay, combat, and exploration - but I will follow the style that makes most sense for my table and the narrative. We can always make adjustments on the fly: session 0 never ends!

I prep by
laying on the floor. Sometime you really do just need time to stare into the middle distance and let your mind wander. I do a lot of other things for prep, but floor time is probably my favorite bit when it happens.
When it comes to voices
I do my best! This is definitely something I'm working on improving, and feedback is always welcome (or resources we like those too)
smoldeaner's ideal table
We're all equals in the writer's room. Players have just as much say in the story and the setting as I do. We're working together to do compelling things with all the blorbos in the sandbox. Collaboration comes right after safety at my tables. The world will react to the things the characters do, and all actions have consequences: good and bad.

I love it when a player
adds to the world or their own backstory as things are happening. Absolutely take 5 minutes to explain why your character is Having A Moment because they saw something the reminded them of their far away home! We love the added details from internal experiences in this house.
I think min/maxing...
is totally fine as long as you make it make sense narratively. Just means I get to use harder monsters and planned tactics more! (I'm totally not a tactician player, what makes you say that?)
