About SmileDaemon
I am an experienced GM/Player for nearly 2 decades, having started in 3.0e. I have authored my own setting, which continues to grow alongside my main campaign. I have run a successful West Marches campaign, which had ~260 concurrent players. My tables are inclusive to everyone, regardless of your creed/code/beliefs, so feel free to let me know if something bothers you. I have a disclaimer for my campaigns that describes the themes used in my campaigns/sessions (typically darker/gritty or morally ambiguous). That being said, all themes are on the table for discussion so that no one is at risk of being exposed to something they find truly unsettling.

My favorite shows/movies are
...fantasy/sci-fi shows that are relatively believable in their respetive worlds. Using pseudo-scientific concepts makes it boring and feel like a cop out.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
...fun, adaptable, creative
When I'm not running games I'm...
...at culinary school, work, playing video games, or working on my setting's lore.
How SmileDaemon runs games
I prefer running sandboxes that take place in a wide-open world with plenty of lore for the players to run around in and carve out their own adventures. I am experienced running sessions that center around almost any theme: intrigue, tactical combat, dungeon crawl, roleplay-heavy, horror, etc. My biggest strength is adaptability: I can craft your world and adapt to what you do in it!

My favorite trope is...
...challenging the status quo and morally gray situations. Nothing is ever black and white unless it is. Plots can be complex and exciting, but sometimes it really is just a group of bandits after your loot.
My games focus on...
...a good balance between combat, exploration, and roleplay.
Rules are...
...the way the world works. But they can be changed by the GM.

I love it when a player
...takes interest in the lore I've written and makes characters rooted in the world.
I think metagaming...
...really only cheats yourself out of the experience. Role-playing isn’t about winning, its about the experience.
I think min/maxing...
...is fundamentally different from "powergaming". Min/maxing is simply picking the best options for your character to best reflect someone who is an expert in their field, as an adventurer should be. Powergaming is the mindset of "winning" at RP at the cost of everyone else's enjoyment.
