About Sir Thick

$10 discount for new registrations to SPG! - https://startplaying.games/referral/cmevi6jb300cal504d0zghaq0 28, Bri'ish, "wokey." Salutations to you fine citizen! I am the ever large, ever loud and ever proud, Sir Thick, at your service! 🛡️ 'Twas 6 years ago during a foul plague that I fell in love with the top of tables; ever since that fateful day I've been guiding those brave enough through fantastical adventures against impossible odds, forming lifelong memories along the way. I strive to make my tables a safe space for fellow lovers of the hobby, to unshackle from the mundanities of the every day. I believe that I offer a uniquely potent concoction of creativity, immersion and a generous dash of humor to every session. If this sounds like your style then please join me, let loose among like-minded kin, and overcome the seemingly endless tyranny! Other citizens have described me as dedicated, energetic and "based", whatever that means 🤷‍♂️ But above all, I take the most pride in making sure everyone is having fun! A wise sage once told me, "if it ain't fun, why bother?" and this is a phrase I live by to this very day. I am a stalwart ally of the LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈 Bigotry of any kind shall be slain wherever it lurks with immense prejudice! ⚔️ Remember, we are here to thwart evil, not join it! Oh, and one more thing, my tables exclusively support 100% human made art! 🎨 Generative AI is not permitted in my games in any form, please help me maintain TTRPGs as a human-lead creative space by doing your part!

I became a GM because

It's fun! It might be a boring answer, but fun is what is the name of the game in TTRPGS. Helping create stories amongst like-minded good folks has resulted in some of my all-time favourite memories. Imo it is a very healthy method of socializing, and an excellent way to flex one's creative muscles.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Dedicated, energetic and humorous.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing PvE (and occasionally PvP) video games, watching YouTube video essays, movies or playing at someone else's table!

How Sir Thick runs games

🎬 Combat is an RP opportunity too! "Roll, 12, miss." Sound familiar? No longer! Instead I try to make the combat flow into an RP moment. "The apparition before you seemingly reforms itself around your blade as you swing, causing it to remain unharmed!" 🤝 Collaborative storytelling! The best stories are the ones where everyone contributed in molding it, meaty backstories are heavily encouraged to allow for personalized quests! 🧠 Player first mentality! I prioritize what makes the game as fun as possible for you. When rulings must be made on the fly, I tend to vote in favor of player agency. ✨ Visual and auditory aids! I try to make the most out of everything Foundry VTT can offer, expect immersive player handouts, magical FX and a wide range of music genres for every occasion! 📈 Non-linear style! I favor adventures with an overarching theme/plot where there are often several goals at any given moment with many different ways you can tackle them, but how and when is purely up to you. 🥊 Smart enemies fight smart! Enemies who could reasonably understand tactics will often put said tactics to the test! Wolves are pack hunters that excel at flanking, a thief may just want to gut you and run with your stuff, but a zombie won't have the ability to play smart without good reason. 🤪 Jokes and humor! I tend to keep things light with a fun atmosphere, though I try not to let this detract from the game, particularly in serious moments. 🗣️ NPC voices! I will, to the best of my ability, be doing voices for NPCs to varying degrees of quality. I don't claim to be a voice actor or anything, but I think it adds to the fun so imma do em anyway. There's no pressure for you to do the same, but it would be cool if you did! 👿 No evil parties! I think it'd be most accurate to describe my games as "neutral good", players that want to be heroes will find their place here! 🤖 No AI! I am putting a lot of effort in as one human to make a fun experience for several other humans, AI is not permitted at my table. My table will remain a uniquely human experience until I'm dead! ⚔️ No PvP! You cannot fight or steal from each other. PCs may have friendly spars with each other with explicit agreement above board from everybody at the table, and that is it. You're a team! ⛱️ Not a sandbox! Requests to leave the main questing area to go off and do something completely unrelated won't be humored! Please make characters that fit the AP!

I once ran a session...

where I made all my players cry, as well as myself. It was a particular moment of pride for me, as it involved revealing a huge backstory moment to a player of mine who is a ghost that suffers with amnesia. It was a memory sequence that can only be described as beautifully tragic.

My games focus on...

RP and combat, with an added focus on implementing personalized questlines based on individual backstories. I also try to sell the fact that this world reacts to your decisions as often as possible.

Rules are...

guidelines! Important guidelines that should be heavily considered before deviating from them, but guidelines nonetheless. The only way to play TTRPGs wrong is to not have fun doing so.

Sir Thick's ideal table

In order of priority, I'd rank the value of the 3 pillars of TTRPGs as follows: 1) RP 2) Combat 3) Exploration There is no TTRPG without RP! It will always be the heart of my tables, a close second is combat. You can expect tight, tactical combat in my games, smart creatures will be treated as such! Exploration is a necessary supporting pillar for the other 2 to shine, but on it's own cannot carry a campaign imo. My table attracts those who are willing to put in high amounts of effort into their characters, and those who value personally curated RP moments. Sink your teeth into the game and it'll sink right back! New players are always welcome! However I do expect everyone to learn their character sheets inbetween games so that you're not lost when it's your turn. Don't be "that guy" delaying the game for others unnecessarily! Those who get easily irate when things aren't going their way, who regularly argue about rulings or show disproportional aggression will need to find a different table. Respecting me and fellow players is non-negotiable, empathy goes a long way in this day and age. Those who understand and appreciate the balance between humour and immersion will shine here, and a big bonus if you RP during combat!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Music! I'm currently at over 150+ songs at the time of writing this, all for specific scenarios, themes or moods! From upbeat battle music, to intense boss ballads, to soothing nature harmonies, to tear-jerking somber songs. I'll always have the music for the occasion.

I love it when a player

can engage in RP moments without my prompting. I know I'm doing my job as a GM when 20 minutes has flown by without me saying a word, because the players are so immersed in the world they don't need my input.

My table is not the place for...

Bigots. Fascists. Those who can't respect a safe space. Overly-negative players. Argumentative players. "Main character" players. It is also not the place to discuss or debate unrelated topics. Game time is exclusively for the game, nothing more, nothing less.
