About me
I am a long-time role-player and GM in his mid-50s. I started playing role-playing games because I loved reading speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction, and horror), and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to be involved in it. I wanted to be more than a spectator. This led me to being a player. But, I also had my own vision of the perfect game, and I hadn’t found it. The best way to find it would be to construct it myself. Thus, a GM was born. I played AD&D and GURPS 2nd Edition in the 80s and 90s, both as player and GM. I took some time off from gaming, though, as the real world intruded. I got married, a career, and a child and gaming took a backseat. I played RPG computer games, and I loved them, but they are limited to programming. Gaming with actual people has an ebb and flow, and the only restrictions are imagination and the real world. In 2020, when the world was falling apart and we were confined at home, I needed social contact, and decided to get back into RPGs with real people online. I researched VTTs, and started out with D&D 5th ed and Roll20. Five years later, I have expanded my horizons to GURPS 4th ed, and then to Foundry. I am a traditionally published author of speculative short fiction, and am a story-teller at heart. My favorite fantasy is A Song of Ice and Fire, and my favorite SciFi is The Expanse and the (2005) Battlestar Galactica. I like my fiction intense, gritty, deep, and morally complex. I have a developed sense of humor, and love wit and wordplay. I am a compulsive communicator, and when it comes to gaming, well-organized. I am also liberal, politically aware, and fully inclusive.
GM Style
I love a good story. I'm a story-teller. Everything in fantasy gaming should have some connection to a story, be it the main story, or a side-story, or a backstory. Great roleplay is the pinnacle of fantasy gaming, but i love me some tactical combat. You need the action to keep the adrenaline pumping, but without the talky-talky the action is empty and unfulfilling. Characters being believable people with strengths and weaknesses create a narrative with which players can identify.

I've been expanding past Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition and 2024 rules recently. I was nervous at first to explore a whole new system I haven't been used to, but Sir Squirrelbane has been a wonderful Game Master. He's quite detailed and has definitely put his work into to build the world and explain GURPS 4th edition to me and the others in my campaign. He's comfortable with all skill levels and helps give great tips, as well as 1 on 1 time for individual questions. Whether it's your first time throwing dice, or been playing since the beginning of D&D. Sir Squirrelbane delivers on that great experience through his story telling and expertise, as well as create a welcoming environment to all his players.
I am pretty lucky about GM's. We have voices, story, great visuals (loved the laser!), voices, patience, inclusion... we honestly have it all. I imagine it only gets better with time. :) When everyone gets really comfortable, the story is so deep that you cant escape and all the depth of your storytelling comes out. It will be glorious!!
Sir Squirrelbane is an excellent GM with a real knack for blending structure and flexibility. He welcomes creative character ideas and makes an effort to incorporate them meaningfully into the world. His combats are well-balanced—challenging and tactical—and the atmosphere he creates with music and character voices adds a lot. It’s clear he puts in the prep work, but he’s also solid at adapting on the fly to keep the game engaging. The story already feels rich with potential, even in the early stages, and I’m genuinely excited to see where it goes. A great balance of fun, depth, and player focus.
I recently returned to playing games with Sir Squirrelbane after last playing in the 1990s. He has a strong command of the rules while being willing to accommodate players who think outside the box. He's always been well prepared for each session. He's put a lot of attention into setting up the campaign and providing challenging adventures.
