About Russell aka Rosco

I have been playing since 5E first came out! i VERY much enjoy playing and sharing the experience with my friends. I have all the handbooks and a ton of minis and want to be able to share the joy of playing with other people. I am also a big fan of Critical Role! I had a great introduction into the world of D&D and I want to be able to help others have that same feeling. I want to make your experience fun and entertaining and most of all memorable. Want silly voices? I can do that Want to go all out and immerse your character in my world? Absolutely! New to all this and not sure what to do? Don't hesitate to send me a message! I will work with you to help you have the best experience possible. Why should you try me as your first DM? I am going to devote my time to creating a world and a game that you would want to play. I work hard on everything I do, and that includes the games I DM/GM. Its very important to me that your experience is a positive one! My goal is to have each person playing want to continue playing. I would much rather put my time and effort into your sessions and create scenarios for you to have fun in. Every day is a day i look forward to learning more to make your experience more fun and immersive. If you're paying me to a run a game for you, I want to be able to run a high quality game that makes it worth paying for!

How Russell aka Rosco runs games

I do a pretty good balance of role playing and combat. I like to feel out what my players want from the game as well. Some sessions may be able to have more of one or the other, but as long as everyone is having fun, I adapt. I balance a good amount of improv and prep but also allow the players to craft as much of the story. I'm also not afraid to say no when needed, yet i can allow an aspect that may not be rules as written if its cool enough to add to the story. I am LGBTQIA friendly and practice safe space and safe words. I am also doing some voice acting, reaching back to my theater roots and time in various choirs.

My games focus on...

having fun! I like to touch base at the end of each session to see what people most enjoyed about the session as well as areas I could look to improve! If you want to come back next session, I view that as a successful and fun experience.

Rules are...

there for a reason! However, I also adhere to the rule of cool: If a player wants to try something and the people at the table including myself are okay with it, I will generally allow it especially if it adds to the flavor of the plot or progresses the story in an exciting direction

When it comes to voices

I am willing to do weird and fun voices and intonations. I am auditioning for various roles so I am usually trying to get consistent and different voices for multiple characters. This can be a challenge! you are welcome to try voices too, but its not required!

Russell aka Rosco's ideal table

My tables are typically either mostly new players or people that have been dungeon masters; i very rarely get a mixed table. Players that want to work together to a common goal will fit in well with my games. The game vibe is typically quite chill and laid back. There will certainly be sessions of high stakes, but I want to make sure first and foremost that everyone is having a good time.

I love it when a player

Gets creative with their character. They start acting and taking into consideration what their character would say and do. It shows investment and attention to the story!

I think it's a red flag when players...

Always have to have the spotlight on them. There is a time and a place for it and depending on the character's backstory, there may be one or more sessions focused on one character, but no one should be trying to be doing everything all the time.

I think min/maxing...

is just another way of playing the game. i respect it as i have done it myself for several of my characters. However, there is something to be said for playing into a characters strength and weaknesses, especially when the stats don't always align well with the character.
