About Rhys
Hello, I'm Rhys. Outside of TTRPGs, I'm still a huge nerd with interests like LARPing, games, and reading rulebooks to make characters that I'll get to use in 42 years. I have 8~9 years of TTRPG experience, with about 6~7 years of experience as a DM for D&D5e. I've run several campaigns and one-shots, both official and homebrew, from start to finish. With every new campaign I run I always challenge myself to focus on one aspect of my play to improve on, whether it's characters, encounter design, exploration, or worldbuilding. I love having new players at my table. It's fun to teach and watch them learn the rules while witnessing their journey as things start to 'click' or they encounter a new monster for the first time.

I became a GM because
I couldn't find a game, and none of my friends wanted to do it. So I accidentally became a forever DM several years ago.
My favorite system of all Time is
It used to be D&D5e, but recently it's Cyberpunk RED.
How Rhys runs games
As a GM I consider myself pretty flexible. My 'default' is typically running a serious campaign, but, if players prefer something else then I can adapt, usually taking a session or two to figure out what might be best for the group I'm running for. I always let players make their own decisions. I also always try my best to provide a clear goal for the players to follow so that no one feels like their time is being wasted or that they're beginning to idle. If it's an official adventure I'm running I will typically make some minor changes to make the experience more memorable. If it's a homebrew game that I'm running, I like to focus on worldbuilding and making memorable and unique encounters. In either case, I love maps. I could spend hours on various mapmaking tools. If the adventure doesn't have a suitable map I will create one ahead of time using Forgotten Adventure or Inkarnate assets mixed with Photoshop to help visualise an encounter.

I once ran a session...
Where my players averaged a ~3.5 on d20 rolls across a total of 31 rolls in a single combat. It was tragically hilarious. A lot of the time it's the dice telling the story.
Rules are...
Something I follow and respect. But I also understand that they're not always for everyone and sometimes are just 'unfun' to certain people. In which case, we roll with whatever might be reasonably fun in the moment.
