About Rachael

Hey there! I've been playing and running games for over 20 years. I started out with AD&D 2E but I've also run campaigns in BESM, Savage Worlds, Vampire: The Dark Ages, D&D 5E, and my one true love, Dungeon World. I prefer systems that are rules-light, as this gives both the players and GM room to be creative and have fun rather than slow everything down by looking up (or arguing about) rules.

Featured Prompts

My favorite books are

Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett, The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi, and John Dies at the End by Jason Pargin. Mix them all up and you've got my GM style!

My favorite shows/movies are

Conan the Barbarian has a wonderful, low-magic fantasy setting. The Color out of Space is a grotesque, over-the-top cosmic horror with Nic Cage at his Nic Cage-eist. And Manborg is a goofy, 90's-style sci-fi that is everything I ever wanted in a movie.

When I'm not running games I'm...

prepping for the next session or reading yet another Drizzt Do'Urden novel. Just how many are there?

How Rachael runs games

In my games, the Rule of Cool reigns supreme. I don't enjoy crunchy combat because we only have so much time. I try to keep it fast and loose since I know everyone's time is limited and most of my energy goes towards roleplaying.

Featured Prompts

I deal with rules issues by...

quickly making a decision, keeping the game moving. We only have so much time!

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Steven Kostanski.

Rules are...

simply guidelines. Unless they're Rule #1: Everyone needs to be having fun.

Rachael's ideal table

My table is full of friendly nerds who are excited to play pretend again. Players who just want to do cool things like they're in the movies will fit in very well here.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

friendly, imaginative, and fun above all else.

I love it when a player

tells me what they want to do, then we can work on achieving it together.

My table is not the place for...

power gamers, min/maxers, or players who love tactical combat.
