About me
Behind the Grind: The Pro GM Chronicles https://www.youtube.com/@PSGKno1 Interviews with seasoned Pro Game Masters for tips, insights, and details for the GM community. Shameless plug aside, I'm so glad you're checking me out. "Welcome, travelers! The fire’s warm, the ale’s cold, and the stew’s hot. Find a seat, and I’ll be right with you." That was the line one of my first GMs used when we entered the tavern many, many years ago. It set the mood for a fantastic set of adventures. I hope to do the same here for you. I'm Jay, PSG Kno1, and a few other not-so-nice names. I'm an advocate for an awesome RPG system: Point System Gaming (https://sites.google.com/view/pointsystemgaming/home) and host a YouTube channel dedicated to interviewing other pro-GMs to discover any tricks of the trade and secret sauce that they might be willing to share (https://www.youtube.com/@PSGKno1) called "Behind the Grind: The Pro GM Chronicles." As a firm believer in the power of storytelling, I love how the system blends so many aspects of gaming. After decades of development, I'd love to introduce you to it. I have been running games for the last 5 years with PSG and can vouch for its validity as a gaming system. It's as simple and elegant as it is lethal, so don't get comfortable. It's worth a look. My games are a series of fantasy one-shots to introduce folks to the system. As a man who has much ... ahem ... life experience, to include placing 2nd in the D&D feature at the 1990 European Gencon in Camber Sands, England, I love to challenge the player and force folks to consider the implications of their choices. The one-shots will have a selection of pre-generated characters tying into the story. I'm also going to run a series of short campaigns (3-5 sessions) where you can create your own characters or use pre-generated ones. You can expect a lot of role-play (doesn't have to be 1st person) and a good bit of combat if necessary. I'll be using a variety of voices (some badly) as I have no shame. The creatures you'd be facing are not the run-of-the-mill baddies, so stay on your toes. I'll do everything possible to make this immersive, fun, and fulfilling.
GM Style
I run a more serious game with high stakes, but there's plenty of opportunity for hijinx. I want to consider myself a student of human behavior, but running games has taught me to expect the unexpected. I just roll with the flow. Every group is a fun challenge, and I advocate for "The Rule of Cool." Want to do something ... unorthodox? Just a dice roll away. I'll have some voices I'll pull out and combat is open and gritty. The creatures want to survive as much as you do for their own reasons. I'm committed to bringing you the best gaming experience I'm capable of executing. Are you ready?

If you're looking for a Game Master who can take you on a truly captivating and dynamic journey, look no further – Jay is your guy. Having just completed a 13-month PSG campaign with him, playing weekly for 3-4 hours, I can confidently say this was one of the most immersive and insightful roleplaying experiences I've enjoyed in years. The world he created was nothing short of breathtaking—every corner of the map brimming with depth, every NPC carrying their own stories and unexpected plot twists. The DM clearly has a deep love for fantasy and storytelling, and it shows in every session. His ability to weave original plots with creative challenges kept us fully engaged, week after week, for over a year. The campaign's narrative was perfectly balanced between epic, large-scale events and intimate character moments, giving everyone at the table a chance to shine. Each session felt like a piece of a larger, thoughtfully crafted puzzle, with mysteries that unraveled in the most satisfying ways. Jay always encouraged creativity, ensuring that player choices truly mattered and influenced the outcome of the story. It’s not just the story that makes this DM exceptional—it’s the energy and passion he brings to every session. Whether voicing an eccentric NPC, describing a lush forest with vivid detail, or running a nail-biting combat encounter, they always had us on the edge of our seats.
I played in a few of Jay's games. His background as a great storyteller and educator are apparent as he weaves his tales in a way that made a new system easy to understand. I enjoyed playing my old toons in a new environment and Jay was able to work him into his world. As Arnold would say, "I'll be back!"
