About DM JJ
What Ho, adventurers! I'm JJ, I've been a Dungeon Master running campaigns and one-shots since I got the D&D 3.5e books in 2003. 22 years later, I'm still running weekly games. My experience as a DM ranges from the down-right bizarre such as an all-dwarven one-shot to save Santa, to more serious high-drama and high-fantasy multi-year campaigns. I'm available for one off custom requests covering all of the games I have listed in my profile such as: D&D 5e, D&D 3.5, Pathfinder 2e, LotR 5e, AoS Soulbound, and Star Wars RPG. Requests can be for one-shot sessions or campaigns. If desired, a pre-written campaign is always an option if your party just wants to play something!

I got started GMing...
when the D&D 3.5e books were released. I used to play on the floor of my friends living room with a second-hand whiteboard that we got when the school threw it away.
My favorite books are
always focused on a high fantasy pulp-esq storyline that plays on all the classic silly tropes, but still engages in the highlighting of serious matters within the mission/quest/thingy they're on. also, the Lord of the Rings trilogy...
When I'm not running games I'm...
looking after my two little girls who love nothing more than running about in the garden and making a mess!

I deal with rules issues by...
1. ensuring I have read how the rule is written and interpreted it as I understand it to be intended, 2. listen to the players interpretation of the rule and understand it from their perspective, & 3. make a ruling on the argument made by the player compared against my understanding of the rule.
I prep by
reading as much as possible from the campaign book (if applicable) and making notes on what I want to hand on the day. If I'm making up the campaign myself, I like to have pertinent elements of a 'timeline' and key dramatic events to happen noted.
My games focus on...
ensuring everyone has a good time, the story progresses at a pace everyone can enjoy, and building into the game personalised elements for each player character.
DM JJ's ideal table
My ideal table is not a specific table but when a table aligns in their playstyle. I personally enjoy playing with those that enjoy a crunchy numbers based combat game as much as I enjoy playing with those that like to play light-combat, roleplay heavy game.

I think min/maxing...
is an acceptable way to play the game but needs to be done at the right table. All too often someone is looking to min/max, or, optimise, when playing with roleplay heavy gamers; unfortunately the two rarely mix well to a cohesive gameplay for all.
My perfect party mix is
a group of players that align in their approach to gameplay which allows them to lean 100% into the game and know they are aligned. That is not to say though that they'll always get along, or never disagree, as that can be healthy for a good game too in a controlled environment.
My table is not the place for...
extreme player character personalities, intentional provocation of players and/or player characters, players interested in undertaking activities such as owning slaves, conducting non-consensual activities, player vs player combat, stealing from other PCs, etc., no edgelords basically.
