About Perry
My name's Perry Williams; I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons for 8 years now, and my favorite part of the game has always been helping people's characters grow. Your characters and your story ideas have immense potential, and I would love nothing more than to help you realize that potential. *Gameplay Preferences* I enjoy the rules to D&D 5e (2014) and know them well enough to keep a game running smoothly. Over Discord, I am less strict with rules as I want to keep the game moving at a decent pace. *Story Preferences* I am not a fan of tragic endings. I will not run games that take place in hopeless settings. I do not like multiverses, and will not run games that involve them. I am fine with religious undertones. Thank you for taking the time to read this. God bless you and have a nice day.

I got started GMing...
I found out about TTRPGs when I went to a small game store in Las Vegas. I played a couple games of 5e (2014) as a player, and the people there were very welcoming. Then, I decided to run a D&D campaign with my friends at that store. No one else wanted to GM, so I stepped up. And it's been awesome!
My favorite system of all Time is
Challenger RPG by David Dostaler. It's free on DriveThruRPG, and I think it captures the spirit of TTRPGs amazingly well. It has 30+ classes, 20+ races, and really great snappy combat; but it really emphasizes the importance of roleplay, and I love it for that. It is a little arcane, but I love it!
When I'm not running games I'm...
Hanging out with my family. I love them so much! If I'm not doing that, I'm playing video games (usually stuff like Slay the Spire, DELTARUNE, or Fallout: New Vegas). Either that, or I'm working hard at becoming an independent writer! I'm coming for ya Mr. Sanderson!
How Perry runs games
My style of DMing is focused on helping your character's story arcs reach satisfying conclusions, emphasizing roleplay more than combat in order to keep combat rare and dangerous. The first thing I do with any campaign is talk with the players about their characters and what they want to have happen with those characters. Once I have that information, I'll make a rough plan and build the campaign in such a way that each player's character will have room to grow and change. During the course of the campaign, I'll regularly check in with my players and ask them what they thought of the previous session, how they feel about their characters and the interactions they had with the other players, and what they're excited to see more of. I use fighting sparingly in most campaigns; I like to build up tension. Fighting should be a last resort; it should be threatening and lethal, and so I use fighting rarely in order to keep it feeling dangerous. Expect maybe 1 combat every three sessions.

I once ran a session...
Where I completely botched the ending of the boss fight. I stole a player's perfectly timed kill and ruined the moment by reminding the player that the attack wasn't technically lethal, instead of just ending the fight there. Since then, I've learned to ditch the rules when they ruin the story.
My games focus on...
Character development! I love to see the kinds of characters people come up with and bring to the table, and the best part of DMing is working together with my player's to tell the stories of their characters as best we can! I want every game I run to tell a complete story about your character!
Rules are...
Important; without them, we're not really playing any specific game, are we? I'll ditch rules if they're really slowing the game down for everyone involved, or ruining the story, but that's rarely been the case. More often, I'll alter the rule slightly to make it easier for the party to remember.
Perry's ideal table
My table is fun and well-thought out, with players discussing their next move and what they plan to do with their characters. Decisions are made primarily because it's what people's characters would do, and the players are curious to see what's behind each corner. Players regularly interact with each other, getting to know their characters better and enjoying the company they have. The characters are heroic; they may struggle with inner darkness, tragic pasts, or frightening premonitions, but at the end of the day, they'll step up to do the right thing. The stories start out small, and gradually get bigger; at first you're helping out a jeweler, then stopping a goblin raid, before fighting off an angry hobgoblin war party, before eventually being recognized as heroes of the kingdom.

I am for a vibe that's...
Got everyone in-character, encouraging everyone to be friendly with each other in-and-out of game, and uplifting. The story may go to dark places, but it's not going to stay there. I love to have the heroes get knocked down... Then get back up.
I love it when a player
Has an intricate backstory for their character! But this isn't a requirement; simple backstories can often go underappreciated. I also love it when player's are curious about the world they're playing in. Exploration is very important to me; there's a world out there! Go find it!
My table is not the place for...
Swearing and foul language. If you regularly use that, I'm not the right guy for you.
