About me

Hello future players! I’m Shawn. Thank you for the interest in one of my games. The game and community have never been more accessible, fun, and easy to learn for new players, while remaining to be fun for long time players like myself. I’m an old school DM, but 5e is my personal favorite version of D&D. I’ve been running games since 1st edition (my uncle brought home the basic red box set in 1979). There’s a LOT of good stuff in the older editions and I was there to see and experience it when it was new. I bring ALL of this knowledge, along with the skill of being a professional artist, to my games. I use visual handouts and references to enhance the Emerson in my games (many of which are my own custom art) I also create almost all of my own maps. You’ll see lots of original and unique locations accurately depicting what is happening in your game (which are still easy to read and understand) I look forward to hearing from you

GM Style

I would describe my style of game mastering as “a world building storyteller who runs a laid back game without an ending set in stone” because my players choices DO matter and change the world that they are playing in. My settings tend to have a tone similar to that old Disney cartoon THE BLACK CALDRON, dark and dramatic, but still fun with enjoyable characters to interact with. A place where character’s actions and motivations MATTER in the story WE’RE creating. Although you won’t have to be a great improv voice actor to participate in the role play I provide (honestly I’m not either lol). I will still introduce you to interesting NPCs to interact with. Often you’ll help save from villains who you’ll grow to fear and hate (or love lol) before ultimately defeating them (Or not? Like I said, your choices matter.) while making important decisions and trying to fulfill a story arc happening in the game.

We had a fun game, helped us out with our Roll20 Sheets and with any questions we had. The game was engaging and we have a good tough fight against a dragon.

Shawn is a DM that exudes his love and passion for DnD into every aspect of his story telling, world building, and combats. He knows the universe and rules very well, allowing him to be extremely patient and accommodating to new players. For advanced players, you can expect challenging combat encounters that test your builds and game knowledge while allowing you to play to your own style with the rule of cool. He is overall a completely solid and fun DM, that as a fellow DM, I give my recommendation wholehearted to.

Playing the one shot with Shawn was a blast. He is knowledgeable of the rules, is very open to players ideas that are outside of the box, and most importantly keeps the pace going. He is also easy to laugh along with players, which is good for a DM so they don't take the narrative so seriously as well as genuinely enjoy player hijinks. I'd recommend Shawn.

Shawn did a great job for both my wife and I learning D&D. He is patient, but did a great job keeping everyone engaged and made a great story from the one shot we played.

As a beginner, I am at a loss for what actions I should take. Shawn took the time to explain what actions were available. He was very patient as I learned not only the "game play" but also the Roll 20 manipulations I needed to make. I will look for another opportunity to play a game with him soon.
