About Scotty C
Hey all, Scott here! I'm a Game Master from Australia, and I’ve been running TTRPGs for longer than I care to admit. With a background in film and a lifelong love of storytelling, I’m passionate about crafting cinematic, character-driven adventures full of laughter, tension, and maybe a few tears. I specialize in sandbox-style campaigns where player choice drives the world. Expect freedom, consequence, and stories that grow naturally from your characters’ actions. Add a few silly voices, some epic music, and heartfelt moments, and you’ve got the kind of table I love to run. When I'm not running games on Startplaying or for my own group of friends, I like playing video games, exercising, and doom scrolling on my phone. My favorite video game series is a tie between The Legend of Zelda and God of War (The soundtracks of which you will become very familiar with if you join any of my games). I love listening to music and spending a night with friends. I hope to see you at one of my tables!

I became a GM because
My passion for telling stories is perhaps only rivaled by my passion to ensure my players and friends at my tables have a good time. With a background in film, I highly value the benefits of collaborative storytelling, and I see Roleplaying Games as one of the most authentic ways to express that.
My favorite books are
My favorite book is "No Power Greater" by Liam Byrne. A wonderful novel that recounts a history of Union action in Australia. As an Aussie myself, reading this book filled me with just about the greatest national pride I've ever felt, reading stories of workers of all kinds fighting for a fairer go.
My favorite shows/movies are
My favorite film series is undoubtedly the 'How to Train your Dragon' trilogy. The combination of excellent music, stunning animation, wonderful characters and creature designs make for a wonderful experience that I seek to emulate in my own games.
How Scotty C runs games
I aim to tell amazing stories with my players, not at them. I love seeing creative solutions and teamwork as you overcome the challenges I set. My games are player-driven and filled with character agency and choice. I prefer open-world sandboxes where every decision ripples through the world. I enjoy strategic combat that rewards clever thinking and tense roleplay where words can change everything. My general tone leans toward gritty realism, with homebrew rules that emphasize consequence and immersion. Above all, I strive to make sure every player feels included, respected, and engaged. I run a safe, LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse-friendly table that welcomes players from all walks of life. Bigotry of any kind is strictly not welcome at my games.

My games focus on...
The narrative! With a filmmaking background I believe that the narrative of the campaign is the most important aspect of it (besides fun). However when I say "the narrative", I mean the narrative we as a table create together collaboratively, not some pre-defined story that I've come up with.
When it comes to voices
As someone with a theatre background I like to place extra emphasis on character voices during play. Whether it be a grumpy Scottish dwarf with a loud rolling voice that carries the weight of mountains or a gentle young elf who speaks in chilled whispers with a voice that flickers like a flame.
Scotty C's ideal table
My ideal table consists of players who are passionate, attentive and decisive. Players who are present to experience the narrative that we create together at the table rather than outright "winning" the game. In addition, I love players who are willing to have a laugh, regardless of how dark or dreadful the moment in a campaign may feel. We make lots of jokes at my games while also leaving plenty of room for serious, gut-wrenching moments of drama and peril!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Drama! Above all else, I believe what makes stories interesting, and what makes roleplaying games interesting is Drama! Whether it be a twist about your characters past, a morale or logical conflict between characters. I am a big fan of introducing more stakes and giving players interesting choices.
I love it when a player
Gets creative! We are all here to share in a unique experience that you can't get from any other form of entertainment or media, so get creative with it! I love a player that is willing to try out fun ideas that might not be covered by the rules, but "Is just crazy enough to work"!
