I became a GM because

I love storytelling. Initially, I admit I wanted control over the narrative—to walk my players through the story I wanted to tell. But experience taught me that if everyone at the table contributed to that story, it became much more wondrous than the sum of its parts.

My favorite books are

More like ‘series’ than a few books: The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir The Burning Kingdoms series by Tasha Suri The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher The Animorphs series by K.A Applegate

My favorite system of all Time is

Alice is Missing: A Silent RPG. Hands down. Not only is the text-based game play unique and engaging, but the prompts from the clue cards challenge each player to add their creativity to the story. Couple that with the curated playlist and the emotions flow every time!

How Mistress Winter runs games

Collaborative storytelling is my goal as a GM. The mechanics of a game take a backseat when they don't serve the story that we tell together. I perform character voices during roleplay, making each character interaction interesting and unique in an attempt to make the story come alive for my players. Ultimately, I work to ensure the players at my table find a personal stake in the story and game.

My games focus on...

Exploring the human condition by proxy. There is so much we can learn about ourselves and each other through play, through exploring new prospectives. We become better equipped to defeat our own demons when we face them in the imaginary sandbox of the stories we create.

Rules are...

Meant to keep things fair and balanced…but are more like guidelines: flexible and non-prescriptive. If you want to do something creative that serves the story, we’ll make it work, even if it means breaking the rules.

Mistress Winter's ideal table

If you enjoy heavy roleplaying and deep characterization, my tables are for you. Love getting lost in the story and making choices that amp the drama? Please come tell a story with me.

I love it when a player

Contributes to the world building in a meaningful way. Adding in a new NPC or defining a detail about a location that ties in their character’s backstory enriches the story for everyone.
