About Daniel

Hello, I'm Daniel, an ecologist and mental health counselor. The first TTRPG I encountered was AD&D in 1995, and soon after I began GMing. With my faithful group, our longest story arc lasted over 20 years — an epic game we’ll never forget. These days, I'm drawn to more narrative systems like FATE and PbtA games, as well as collective storytelling games such as Fiasco and Fall of Magic. I enjoy worldbuilding, exploration, and introducing the world in a "show, don’t tell" style. (After all, it’s far more engaging to uncover the powers of a long-lost relic than to read passages from a historical text.) I also like running my campaigns in a West Marches style, which allows players to drop in and out as their busy schedules permit.

How Daniel runs games

I enjoy watching characters grow — becoming stronger, more capable, and embarking on quests with higher and higher stakes. I make it a priority to ensure that each character has their own storyline and opportunities to progress along their path. In my sandbox campaigns, PCs are free to forge their own glory, build their reputation, and eventually alter the course of history. My worlds are dynamic and alive, with NPCs and factions actively pursuing their own goals. Combat is not the only option, sometimes it’s wiser to retreat, make intriguing deals, or form alliances. I believe in lifelong learning, and the online space is in constant change, so I’m always open to feedback and eager to incorporate it into my games.
